If you were to ask Mina what was the favorite part of her day, she would tell you it was recess, followed by her time with Daniel, and then maybe P.E. or art class. She would never admit she thought of Daniel as anything but a friend, a close friend, boy friends and girl friends were things for Junior High, and for boys and girls her own age. Daniel was cute, and ever since last year in creative writing she would write stories about a character very much like her, being whisked away by a man named Daniel, traveling across the world to what ever romantic location they had studied in geography that week. They were just friends, friends that Mina confided her deepest secrets to, friends that Mina would wish to rush along side of as wolves.
Mina was expecting the next morning to be as usual as every other, she was excused from her second period class to go to speech therapy, she made her way down the hall and opened the door only to be hit with a overwhelming wave of musk that seemed to fill the air of the room. She did not know what exactly the scent was, it made her feel tingly all over, but her nose could pick up the distinct smell of two wolves.
"Sorry." Daniel apologized boosting a fan up to the small window on the other side of the room. "I'm trying my best to get it all aired out."
Mina took a moment to take the room all in, the wallpaper was ripped to shreds, as were the posters and the carpet which also seemed to have white flakes on it, like maybe dried glue? Her tween brain wasn't sure but she couldn't stand the smell and took a few steps out of the room as Daniel raced across to join her. "How about we have our lesson outside, we have a few things to talk about."
The autumn air felt crisp and cool, a deep breath washed away the nasty smells, and a second breath rewarded Mina with a new strange scent, the smell of a new wolf. Her eyes widened and her head snapped around to follow the smell to Daniel. "Surprise." He laughed sheepishly, running his hand over the back of his head.
"YOUR LIKE ME!" Mina leapt for joy, tumbling into the man's arms as he drew her into a hug, unlike Kaida who could transform with all the grace of an artist, Mina's changes came with starts and stops, like halfway pointed ears, and a hairless tail, or a muzzle that would push out but not curve correctly with the nose. "OMYGOSH I have so many questions how did this happen?!"
Daniel took a deep breath to center himself and moved them closer to the teacher's parking lot, away from the prying eyes of classrooms. "Remember yesterday when you cut me, and then licked the wound?" He asked as Mina went pale, the weight of what she had done crashed down on her shoulders, she had betrayed her Alpha's orders, she had brought someone else into the pack, an adult on top of that! She could already imagine Alpha Shannon kicking her out of the pack! "Mina this was an accident, and when we talk to our Alpha, I will explain it to whoever he or she is."
Daniel knelt down to her level and gave a smile, holding her hands as tears welled and fell down Mina's half muzzle. "You promise your not mad at me?" Mina asked, the changes from her excitement began to retreat as Daniel shook his head.
He reached out his pinky and took hold of her's. "Pinky promise." He replied. Things like his newfound youth, his new pack sister, those were things he could talk to his Alpha about whenever he met him or her. Right now, he just needed to work on making Mina happy, afterall she was his Beta now.
