Oliver climbed into the passenger seat of his mom's mini van. He looked odd in a shirt obviously a size or two too small for him, but it had fit this morning. His mom smiled at him.
"Well, aren't you a handsome young man. I noticed you lost your skirt." She commented. Oliver's mom had question why Olivia insisted on wearing a skirt even though she would be a boy by the end of the day. Olivia had to come clean about the school's tradition. "So, I take it that today went well."
Oliver glanced at the cute girl walking to the busses. His former skirt fluttering around her legs as she walked. Trixie had been cute before, but this was a different type of cuteness. Being male, he felt a different kind of attraction. "I think it went very well." Turning back to his mom he asked, "how long are you supposed to wait before asking a new girl out?"
"That's a very good question." His mom told him. "Your father and I didn't have these issues when we were your age so let's look it up when we get home.

Trixie got off the bus and walked towards her house. She was somewhat more used to wearing a skirt, but the novelty still kept her from being completely comfortable with it. Looking around, she saw other children wondering home from their first day of school. Some were the same neighborhood kids she had always seen, some were completely new. Trixie wondered how many she just hadn't noticed before and how many had drastic changes like herself.
The two people she regularly saw on her way home were her friend Luis, and the neighborhood bully, Danny. She saw neither of them today. They both went to a different school than her, so she wasn't sure if she would recognize them if she saw them. They could have undergone the same change she had, or different ones, or even no change at all.
Trixie made it to her front door without issue, and went in to great her family. Her little brother Johnny was watching TV while her dad worked on his laptop. His mom was preparing something in the kitchen, but came out when she heard the door open.
While she had been dreading the change all summer, Trixie decided to make a big show of her introduction. She marched in front of the television, spun around making her skirt flare up a bit, and then placed both hands on her hips. "So, what do you think?"
"You're beautiful darling." Her mother cried.
Johnny gave her a thumbs up. "Its about time I got a sister."
Trixie started giggling despite herself. "You probably won't enjoy it as much now that you're a boy."
Johnny shrugged. "I'll be a girl again when I get to high-school. Gives you a chance to learn all the best places we can shop together. "
"I'm not sure I'm going to be a shopaholic or a fashionista."
"She says while wearing a skirt before being a girl a full day." Johnny snarked back.
"Don't make fun of your sister." Her mom told him. "Her school requires skirts."
Her dad glanced up confused. "Why are you a girl?"
"Because my school is doing gender inversion." Trixie reminded him. At his blank stare she continued. "I complained all summer about this." More silence. "You signed the permission slip before even telling me it was going to happen."
Finally he responded. "Right, I already enrolled you and wasn't going to do the paperwork to transfer you. Well, I guess it'll be nice to have a daughter again."
With that he went back to his work. Trixie felt somewhat exasperated with him. Her mom pulled her into a hug. "Ignore him. After dinner we are going shopping so you have clothes for the week. I am so excited to have a daughter again."
