Compared to other expos, the Herm Exposition is rather unique. For one thing, it isn't restricted to just one week or weekend. It was an ongoing event that went on for the duration of June or Pride Month. And rather than showcasing new models of cars or gadgets, it was showcasing varieties of herm Animalian species, particularly new species being added.
With Furfest allowing more furries to convert into Animalians, it was inevitable that new species will be added to Animalia's herm roster. When Project Hermaphroditus started out, there were only a handful of herms and the tradition became that each new herm species would be greeted by the existing herms. Of course, as numbers swelled, the greeters were narrowed down to just one representative from each of the existing species. But with Furfest introducing an explosive amount of new herms, it was decided that it would be easier to have the Herm Exposition so that each species could be represented, including the new additions.
Each herm species was given their own booth at the expo, with a regularly rotating representative. Nio couldn't really stay long enough to showcase the herm jaguars as shi needed to be at Mieni Atoll for the Bodybuilding Competition as well as the IAC MMA tournament. Fortunately, shi already had the foresight to record a video showing the 'features' for being a herm jaguar. Before long, there was another herm jaguar conversion that was able to fill in for Nio more personally.
As for new herm varieties being added, a lot of them has been consistent with what were the most popular furries. The new species could most easily divided between carnivores and herbivores. Carnivores seem to take up a majority, with new entries including tigers, panthers, foxes, rats, skunks, Komodo dragons, alligators, cats, and dogs. Considering there is a large variety of different breeds for dogs and they all fall under Canis familiarus, it was decided to make things simpler by grouping all breeds of herm dogs into one booth.
In comparison, new types of herm herbivores were less abundant, though no less popular. For starters, new herm equines included donkeys and zebras. Smaller animals included rabbits, squirrels, and goats. Though probably one of the most noticeable new additions was one man from Brazil who was known to be extremely flamboyant. As such, it was of little surprise when he became a herm peafowl. Shi was quite noticeable for having a very obviously feminine figure coupled with the brighter plumage of the male peacock. And by all indications, hir flamboyancy is only going to get even showier.
And the new herm Dinotopians were in a class all of their own. Thanks to Dakota and Harper bridging the necessary gap between the Dinotopian conversion strain and the hermaphrodite gene, per-existing types of Dinotopians could gain a herm variation. It was of little surprise that among the first Dino herms would be a tyrannosaurus, a triceratops, and a brontosaur. A herm variant of a pterosaur was simply an inevitability, along with a plesiosaur.
With a half-off discount for hermaphrodite conversion during Pride Month, it was easy to see that herms were quickly growing from a marginal minority to a more substantial minority. As such, more serious thought was being given to hermaphrodites' position in the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Though often there's rarely one straight answer (no pun intended) given the various reasons people have for converting into herms. And by extension, there was also a lot of debate over what colors the herm flag would be, which often boiled down to what colors and patterns were already taken. The strongest support at the moment is for the bigender flag, which seems to be the closest to hermaphrodism that currently exists.
