Religious Interest

added by s1 2 months ago O

Many organized religious organizations generally tended to look away from Animalia. It wasn't that they would turn away Animalians as followers but that they saw their adherence to God as a higher calling than anything else. This was especially true of the group of nuns that had run something of a rescue shelter in the American south for various stray cats in the area. They had only gotten permission to convert after a tornado had hit and destroyed their convent in years past. Those nuns had survived but had been seriously injured, the cats they cared fore had been less fortunate. That convent converted while their original facility was rebuilt and became Cat Animalians to then pick up where they left off. Care for cats and find them good homes and using that to provide some means of bringing parishioners to their local churches.

Sister Thompson and her convent came with a similar line of reasoning and similar reasons for conversion. Her convent was on the edge of a small town not too far from Coldwater, Kansas, and as with happened with the first convent that ended up with connections to Animalia, the convent was hit by a tornado. It was something that came about as something akin to "the storm from nowhere" that came in and hit this convent and devastated much of the local area and the horse and cattle ranches in that area. It hurt the convent as Sister Thompson and her members, ran a small part of community service that served to offer horseback riding lessons to local parts of the community and providing services to children in the area, essentially being babysitters and giving them means to provide for the community and see to the spiritual needs of the community. But in the "Twister from nowhere," the convent was badly damaged, the nuns were injured, and livestock were either killed or injured through much of the area.

The thing that brought the offers for conversion ultimately came from the fact that one of nuns injured had family that worked for Horizon and wanted to help. There followed a series of offers that would fly in vets that would care for the horses and other livestock that were injured. There were some offers of uplifting them, but the response came back as a hard "no" for the uplifting of the animals. However, the injured nuns did get the clearance to be converted into Horse Animalians to better run the convent and the other aspects of what they provided for the community. Horizon would have to cover the transport to Lyre/Animalia and the conversion... along with instruction on how to handle the new instincts, but that was something that was cleared. And that was what brought Sister Thompson and her small group to Horizon with a group of doctors and one of the fathers from the church that was to be something of a chaperone.

"Horizon can see to their chastity?" the father asked as he looked to Judy and then to Sister Thompson who was seated nearby in a wheelchair with a fairly simple cast around a broken leg.

"That and all other vows taken to the church remain something that they must handle on their own," Judy answered, "and would be a test of their own willpower. For Animalians have a strong libido... and it is, to a degree, why most Animalians are either Protestant or have no desire to take vows to the church if they are Catholic... Father..."

"Brown," the father spoke, "Father Brown... and no, I do NOT solve mysteries."

"Huh?" Judy asked.

"You must forgive Father Brown, Ms. Judy," Sister Thompson spoke, "some parishioners, particularly the older ones... or those interested in crime drama equate him to a priest who solves mysteries in England."

"It is annoying," Father Brown grumbled.

"I've never seen this series, so I will assure you... I have no mysteries in need of being solved. At least none that would relate to solving crimes."

"Good to hear," Father Brown gave a relieved sigh and then looked to Sister Thompson and the other group of nuns with her, "and you understand what the scientist has said? That you will be tempted."

Sister Thompson nodded and looked to the others.

"The temptation will be there... and may be tougher here while learning to adapt to new instincts," Sister Thompson answered, "but once that is done... it should be easier. Particularly as our small group would be the only Animalians in Kansas. That would make things easier in the long term."

Father Brown nodded and turned to Judy as Sister Thompson rolled her wheelchair forward, "very well... Ms. Judy, you may carry out the procedure. Though, you may need to cut the casts and apply some means to keep things steady."

"Of course," Judy nodded and noted as Father Brown turned back to Sister Thompson.

"And I will not remind you of the consequences should you fall to temptation," Father Brown spoke sternly to Sister Thompson.

"It will not be needed, father," Sister Thompson answered, "we will work at keeping our vows."
