As Kushiel sat in his office signing expulsion decrees, he was startled to see a communication portal open. And it was from God Himself! "Lord!" Kushiel said, bowing his haloed head. "To what do I owe this honor?"
"Certain sources have made some troubling things known to me," Jehovah said, stroking his long beard pensively. "I can't talk long since I'm on my way to officiate a wedding, but I need some kind of explanation. My source tells me that you were just involved in the torture of Tarfiel, the angel you reported missing. Why the descrepancy?"
"That is because the Tarfiel situation is heavily classified," Kushiel lied, noting that Jehovah had accidentally made it clear to him that the source was an Iron Knight. "Tarfiel was caught conspiring with demons, and I was extracting information from her. I believe that Beelzebub, Archduke of the Eighth Circle of Hell, has become a devotee of Chaos. I'm worried that Tarfiel has turned against the very nature she was pledged to defend and allied with Beelzebub's agents."
"Hmmm..." Jehovah pondered. "I suppose that checks out. What a pity that Chaos reached her heart. I also can't help but notice a strange pocket of Heaven where no cherub can go. Your offices are within the radius."
"I too have noticed this," Kushiel nodded. "Actually, you'll find that it is centered on the Grand Library. I suspect that someone in the employ of the Grand Library has turned to Chaos... or may have been enchanted by Beelzebub, perhaps."
Jehovah shivered at the thought that Beelzebub might have cast Chaos spells on Penemue. "Be sure to look into that," Jehovah implored Kushiel. "I'm sending my wife and my eldest Son to help you."
Kushiel braced himself, mentally preparing for the daunting task of misdirecting that formidable pair. "Excellent choice, Lord. I hope you enjoy the wedding."

After He finished speaking with Kushiel, Jehovah opened another portal and relayed everything to his counselor Sandalphon (formerly the Prophet Elijah). "I just don't know who to believe, Lord Sandalphon," Jehovah sighed. "I feel so blind dealing with places that the cherubs cannot reach."
"Well, it is the word of an angel in good standing against that of an Iron Knight," Sandalphon mused, tapping his halo as he thought. "I would be inclined to give Kushiel the benefit of the doubt until we have truly damning evidence against him, which we don't. Besides, I've heard of Tarfiel. She always was suspiciously unorthodox in her methods. This wouldn't be the first time she's collaborated with demons to achieve a common goal. Perhaps she really did turn traitor." Sandalphon's eyes widened with horror. "And in the service of Chaos, no less! I can see why Kushiel was so hard on her! Exile would almost be too good for an angel who wished to bring Chaos back to Heaven!"
"Perhaps you're right, Sandalphon," Jehovah sighed, remembering losing first his father and then his mother to Chaos. "Maybe I should trust my own Grand Inquisitor to do his job rather than constantly meddle. I suppose it's just hard for me to feel easy around an angel who has to do such brutal work. I should be less prejudiced against him. Hmm, on the topic of spying on Kushiel, do you believe him about the cherubs and the Grand Library?"
"What else can we believe?" asked Sandalphon. "The dead zone IS centered on the Library."
"If Beelzebub has touched my daughter..." Jehovah fumed.
"Agreed," Sandalphon nodded.
"Well, I should be going," Jehovah said. "I have a wedding to perform, and I can't keep the brides waiting."
