There was a faint cry in the distance.
"That's him. Looks like he's still after us," Zack said.
"We'd best move before he catches up"
Willis sniffed the air and decided which way the farmer was. Then, he started in the opposite direction.
The trees were thick and provided efficient cover. The farmer wouldn't be able to see them from a distance.
Willis had dark brown fur coating his body, and Zack had fur so dark it could be likened to black. If they were out in the open the snow would reveal them.
They walked for hours, in silence.
More snow began to drift from the heavens. At first, it was light. But it gradually became thick and fast.
"It looks like a blizzard is coming," Zack announced.
"Are you sure?" Willis replied.
"Positive. I've seen it before. Soon we won't be able to see two inches in front of us. We'll end up going round in circles"
Willis pondered.
"We need shelter. A place where he won't find us"
The visibility was already poor in the thick trees, and the snow didn't help.
"Where?"
"I'll climb up a tree and look around from up there"
Willis leaped and pulled himself onto a branch. It didn't take him long to reach the top.
"What do you see?" Zack shouted.
"Not much"
Without the cover of the trees, the snow plastered Willis face, making him consider disguising themselves as snowmen.
Suddenly, something dark caught his eye.
He wiped the snow from his face and looked again.
Nestled in the canopy of the trees was a dark shape.
Willis squinted.
It was the roof of a building. And it was poorly maintained. Willis decided that it must be abandoned.
"I see something! I'm coming down"
Willis dropped gently onto the ground. He bent his knees in recoil and straightened again.
"That way," Willis pointed.
