Lef glanced at the job board and his attention was drawn to a brightly highlighted request note; the wax seal on this request was that of a foreign entity too: Some gnolls have occupied a recently abandoned castle in the neighboring kingdom and their encroachment has gotten out of hand. The issue has gotten so out of hand, that the allied kingdom has been willing to offer lordship in their kingdom for the head of their leader!
Lef smirked to himself and told the staff he will take the request. While the staff were handling the paperwork, Lef thought about how easy it would be to take out a dozen or so gnolls; he could probably just sneak in and take out the leader for an easy payout. Maybe he will just take out every single gnoll so there's a good story to tell about his last request! Lef was so lost in his own thought he didn't even notice the staff members handing him a map marked with the location of the castle.
Wasting no time, Lef made his way to the stables and chartered his ride to the closest town to the castle. Despite being the closest town, it was still over a day-long trek to get to the occupied castle. Lef was surprised to learn civilization was so far disconnected from the castle. Nevertheless, he embarked for the castle not a day after accepting the request. The surrounding lands were vibrant lands of green plains. The land was clearly abandoned not too long ago, but the monster presence in the area was low, and gnolls were nonexistent during the trek. Lef was only accosted by two giant tigers, which were sluggish at best, and four dire bears which he smelled coming a mile away. After a couple hours of journeying, Lef heard the sounds of gnolls chuckling amongst one another. He located a pack of 3 rummaging through the remains of someone's camp. No dead bodies, but gnolls are dangerous creatures known to attack in packs.
These gnolls clearly looked feral, most organized gnoll encampments will feature flags and loincloths or warpaint for their pack members. Lef still had ground to cover before sundown approached, but he could easily dispatch this group so other campers in the area won't get ambushed...
