With that the old witch disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Even having been teleported here by magic himself not long before it was still an astonishing thing for James to witness. It seemed like he was alone here, apart from the cat at least. Of course he wanted to get as far away from this place as possible but he knew it couldn't be that simple. What he had seen so far had already convinced him that Elspeth was a real life witch and that magic wasn't just a fantasy like he had thought. James was therefore horrified by Elspeth's apparent plan to use him to cast all manner of spells on whether for testing purposes or her own pleasure. Not only that, but Nicola had been turned to stone and bought by a creepy old wizard. Even though it was kind of her fault they had both got into this mess he couldn't just leave her helpless and at the old man's mercy. He was pretty sure leaving through any of the doors or windows wouldn't be an option, there had to be some kind of magical lock on them for Elspeth to feel confident enough to leave him here unattended. Another problem was a lack of clothing. The old witch had not only brought him here without his but had commanded him to remain naked at all times in the house. As much as he hated it he felt it might be best not to upset a crazy witch by defying her orders and would need to play along with that request for now in case she reappeared unexpectedly.
Still, he wasn't sure how long it would be before he got another opportunity like this to check out his surroundings. Maybe there was something here that could help him escape? It was time to explore.
