What Jeff realises makes his heart skip a beat. The losing club, it's his. His eyes dart around for a quick, no fuss escape. Nobody will know he was ever there.
A strange feeling overcomes him and he feels much more naked than before. He looks down in horror at the soccer uniform wrapped around his body. His legs are about to make a break for it when they stiffen up. The grass moves closer to his face as he shrinks down to the size of an average trophy. A base grows out from his feet. His entire body starts to harden, Jeff screams a silent scream as his transformation into a trophy is over just as soon as it started.
Standing alone on the grass. Jeff sees a player approach him. The player is grinning, "Got the final one." He bends down to pick up his trophy, his long blonde hair blowing in the light breeze. The boy grins again, "Jeff? I thought you were sick. Or at least that was the excuse." Jeff screams mentally as the hand wraps around him and carries him back to the clubrooms.
"Found the missing trophy. It's Jeff," says the boy to his coach.
"I thought he was sick. Unless they were protecting their star player," replies the winning team's coach.
"Can I keep him?"
"You won the game. So yeah, Jeff is your trophy. Let's get the plaque engraved."
In a few minutes. The winning team have their trophies. Complete with a plaque stating the former names of the trophies and the date of their defeat. Jeff's owner smiles at him, "This is what you deserve. Then again, you were a better player than me. But I didn't lose."
After the celebration. Jeff's owner gets into his father's car. He smiles, "I got Jeff."
"Good on you, Nate. Hopefully his skill will wash off onto you, without the losing part of course."
