Ryan looked at the chart, then tapped on two panels. "Ah, an excellent choice," the clown replied. "Especially for a mother and son."
She stepped back and two young lady auguste clowns stepped forward.
They looked almost identical, with similar makeup and costume except on had a pink based foundation for her makeup with a red wig and predominantly blue and red on her costume while the other's foundation was peachy orange; her wig was green and her dress a mix of green and orange.
"Hi!" said the red wigged clown, in a voice that sounded like she was breathing helium. "I'm Twinky-,"
"-and I'm her sister Blinky," said the other, in a deeper, somewhat goofier voice.
"We'll be doing your makeup," they finished in unison.
Twinky moved beside Erica while Blinky stood over Ryan. "Gotta start with a clean canvas," Blinky said as she and her sister wiped their subjects' faces with facial wipes.
Next, the two Augustes combed back Erica and Ryan's blondish-brown hair. Twinky bound back Erica's hair with a headband, while Blinky placed a latex skullcap over Ryan's head, trimmed the edges with scissors, then sealed said edges with liquid latex.
Next the clown sisters blocked out mother and son's eyebrows with liquid soap then took a handful of putty. "This is very special nose putty," Blinky explained as she and her sister applied the wet claylike wax over Erica and Ryan's noses. The clowns shaped said putty into bulbous spheroids, careful to leave enough space for the nostrils to breathe comfortably. "As it hardens it feels like part of your body."
White greasepaint was applied around the two's eyes, and their mouth, then carefully shaped with wet q-tips. Ryan's eyepatches stretched from the bottom of his eyes to the edges of his skullcap, while his mother's were smaller and more feminine looking. The cupids' bow shaped space was wiped on Erica's lips. Both faces were then dusted with a powder puff and the excess powder wiped away.
Ryan giggled as a shaving brush was applied to his face. "That tickles."
Next, foundation was applied-light pink over Ercia's while a ruddy orange over Ryan's including the latex skull-cap. Like before, the foundation was powdered and brushed.
Erica laughed at how her son looked. Ryan glanced in a mirror and smiled. "I look bald!"
Details were filled in on the faces. The cupid's bow inside Erica's muzzle was filled in with pink lipstick, then her eyelids shaded blueish grey, then outlined in black. Her cheeks were blushed a soft red, and black eyebrows were painted on her white eyepatches. Ryan's eyes were outlined in black and black eyebrows painted in his eyepatches as well, then around his muzzle a black 'beard' was painted over his cheeks and neck. The bare spaces of his cheeks were covered in red blush and Blinky painted three black freckles on each of them. As a final touch, their putty noses were painted, Ryans a deep red, and Erica's a darker pink than her face.
Erica giggled at how she looked. "It's almost like I've been drinking," she said.
The makeup done, Twinky removed Erica's headband and brushed her hair. The auguste clown then took a can of hairspray and sprayed Erica's hair a matted black color before taking another can and spraying several grey streaks. Meanwhile Blinky glued a thick black fringe of false hair around Ryan’s bald cap, which she then trimmed and combed into shape.
The barber’s capes were taken off; Ryan and Erica looked at eachother’s faces. Then they burst out laughing; they both looked SSSOOO silly.
The two were led to separate dressing rooms, where a clown attendant helped them pick clothes appropriate to their faces: Ryan in a shabby threadbare Little Lord Fauntleroy style suit covered here and there with red and white patches, faded grey socks that stretched up past his knees into his pant legs, and a little bowler on his ‘bald’ forehead. Erica was dressed in a dull red and white striped turtleneck blouse and grey jumper. Poking out from the skirt were the bubble toes of black clown Mary Janes; on her head Erica was wearing a dark blue lady’s turban with a bow tied in front. Ryan’s street clothes were tied into a hobo style bindle to be carried over his shoulder while Erica’s were placed along with her purse into an old, worn looking carpetbag.
The new bag lady and child hobo clowns were then walked over to the camera stall. There, Erica and Ryan made various silly faces and struck ridiculous poses, made even funnier by their makeup and costume. The funniest was when Erica picked up three rubber balls and attempted to juggle. After about a second, on ball fell on her head, another on Ryans, and a third on the floor. Ryan stepped on the last, then rolled over flat on his butt, causing the whole studio and salon to break out in laughter.
