With a sigh of relief, you see a pair of human legs again. That relief is short-lived, however, when you notice a few odd features. For one thing, the skin of your legs and crotch seem unusually smooth and hairless, reflecting the light in a way human skin would not. It reminds you of the gleam of light off your scales when you still had a naga tail.
Gingerly, you touch your thigh. Thankfully, it feels normal enough, though a bit cold.
"Ah, looks like you're awake," you hear Marisa say.
Turning, you see her entering the room, steaming mug in hand. Clearly, she had been waiting for a while. Three steps in and she stops, her eyes going wide as she gasps. "Oh. Oh no!"
"What's wrong?" You ask, climbing to your feet. Suddenly, you notice that you seem taller than you remember, almost as tall as you had been as a man. It certainly gives you a few inches of height advantage over Marisa. Still, that doesn't explain the dismay on the redhead's face.
Going over to a nearby mirror, you finally see your face, and you automatically echo Marisa's gasp. Structurally, your face is the same as before, but the eyes now peering back at you are still that of a naga, amber gold with predatory slit pupils. Drawing back in shock, your tongue flicks out, the unmistakable forked shape of a snake tongue, and opening your mouth lets your fangs extend, still as intimidating as ever.
"Why am I still a snake?" You blurt out, turning back to Marisa. Another tongue flick tells you her fear has returned, though whether that fear is towards you or simply from being out of her depth you cannot tell.
"I don't know," she says, her voice shaking as she carefully sets her mug down. Taking out her phone, she groans. "Ugh, Arik is already heading back to Germany, and it's already midnight there. He won't be able to get back to me before tomorrow."
"So, he didn't even stick around to make sure his damn potion worked?" You hiss.
The taste of Marisa's fear increases, though a bit of anger as well. "There's no reason that it wouldn't have worked! He's a potions expert, and we even scanned your body while you slept. Everything seemed fine."
You glare at her, your follow up question obvious.
"I don't know why this happened, okay?" Marisa rubs her temples and paces the room. "I don't even know why you became a naga in the first place. Witch magic and naga biology don't mix, making it really difficult for you to be my apprentice. It doesn't make any sense."
Suddenly, she stops. "Unless..." Her voice goes silent, but her lips keep moving like she is working something out.
After several long seconds of this, the suspense is killing you. "Unless what?"
Marisa answers...
