"Of course, starting timer." Owen responded, before falling silent.
One Seventeen waited a moment, until he realized that Owen wasn't saying anything else, leaving him to slowly try to think about his situation.
One Seventeen liked being a Donkey, especially a Paper Corp Donkey, and he barely even remembered anything else, it was all a bit mixed up, distant, and... unimportant, at least when compared to being a Paper Corp Donkey.
But there was a slight nagging in the back of his head. He vagually remembered his nice town house, and even though he liked living in the Paper Corp basement with the other Donkeys, eating with them, sleeping with them... having fun with them... he also recalled liking that house, his financial freedom. For example, he used to be able to eat what he wanted when he wanted. He could even eat his favorite carrot oatmeal twice a week instead of just once a week!
And anyway he used to be much more important to Paper Corp, much more USEFUL to Paper Corp, and a good Paper Corp Donkey should work as hard as he can for, and be as useful as possible to, Paper Corp.
Suddenly One Seventeen was pulled from his thoughts by a beep, followed by Owen's voice. "The minute is over. Have you decided yet, or would you like some more time to think?"
One Seventeen vacantly stared at the wristwatch for a moment, before remembering what he was thinking about. "Oh, uh, Mr.Owen? I used to live in a house, right? Could i have that back? And my old job please?"
"Of course, sir. But i have noticed that you have not mentioned anything else, so am i correct in the assumption that you are satisfied with the other changes?" Owen responded, his voice somehow sounding smooth despite being synthetic and communicating through brays.
One Seventeen stared blankly again. "Uh, what other changes, sir?"
Owen's synthetic voice sounded mildly amused, though One Seventeen couldn't tell why. "Allow me to rephrase. Would you like to remain a Donkey?"
The answer came immediately "Yes! Uh, yes Mr.Owen, sir."
"And can you think of anything else you would like to change or adjust?"
