The Mischievous Witch was collecting plants in the woods she inhabited, even though night had fallen. But the moon was shining and its bright light imbued certain plants with more power. She needed more ingredients. She always needed ingredients, in fact. Luckily for her, the woods were full of these but also the many worlds she had access to. True, she had been banned from her coven but she felt fine about it. Living on her own suited her perfectly, in her cottage where she created potions and spells all year long. With great talent, as she admitted to herself with pride. And indeed, this part was true. So why did such an intelligent witch get banned? Well, because of her obsession with transforming human beings. Not that she did it without thought or logic, she argued. She dealt poetic punishments and deserved rewards. She tested humans or caught them in the act of doing kind or mean things and then handed him or her what they deserved. And the witch was very, very imaginative in her ideas of transformation. It wasn't her fault some humans were such awful bullies!
And as she was ambling about looking for more foxglove and roots, she caught some words from a conversation. Frowning, she approached discreetly its source. People?In her forest? At this hour? Strange. And then she saw a couple of youngsters in their early twenties, no more, in a clearing near the path, smoking cigarettes that exuded an awful stench and ready to consume mushrooms. The weed and tobacco smells were rather unpleasant, because of the bad quality of the plants, in her mind, but it was the fact that the couple threw the cigarette butts on the ground that angered her. Were they so careless as to not care about a forest fire? The irresponsible fools! She approached them with her cane and gently reprimanded them, asking them to stop, be more considerate of their actions and to pick up their trash. The young man and woman laughed at her, telling her to get lost. The witch had expected such an outcome. In her pocket she had put two simple mushrooms and she touched them, rendering them unusual and rather uniquer in that anyone who consumed them would get transformed. The spell would act on them instantly, as soon as the mushroom was in their stomach. One for each and they wouldn't resist such bright and unknown hallucination-inducing delicacies for sure. These humans were so predictable! She berated them with a wagging finger at them as she discreetly slipped the two mushrooms in their bag. Of course the young couple laughed at her and insulted her more. Well, she had given them one last chance and they'd wasted it. She then retreated, smiling to herself. Soon, these two would enter their new life and won't be such a waste of flesh and space. Yes, they'd make more people happy than as they now were. Punishment was so much fun indeed!
