The Magic Shop

Bad luck for Alice

added 25 days ago AR BM

The three women looked at each other, not quite sure what to decide. Sharon became impatient and stepped forward.

"Well, since you're not deciding anything, I think I'll just have some fun on my own" Sharon affirmed as she picked up her bag and coat. "Then we'll do as we said, we'll each keep a dice and I'll leave you alone for the bookshop, deal?"

Alice thought for a moment, the idea of entrusting Sharon with a die was very repulsive not because she wished to keep both dice with her but noticing how oblivious Sharon was to the prospect of becoming younger, again and again.

Sharon crossed her arms as Alice looked anything but in agreement,

"So, have you made up your mind?" she said in a bored tone.

"Hey, give her a moment. You think we can trust you that easily Sharon?" Nicole replied with a glazed look and Sharon rolled her eyes.

Alice held out her hand with one of the dice. "It's okay Nicole, I think we can trust her."

Sharon instantly grabbed the dice, so quickly that it slipped from her hands and rolled to the floor.

"Woops!"

Forty one years you have walked this Earth. Now this number is but thirty six. Each roll of the dice returns more of what you have lost.

"Sharon!" Alice shouted as she felt her body change again. She had already regained her slender appearance with her previous roll, but this time her appearance changed for good, bringing her closer and closer to that of the prime of her life. Wrinkles faded from her face, her breasts rose a little more under her sweater and her hair became a little darker. As she reached her mid-thirties, Alice felt the process coming to an end and cast a terrified glance at Sharon, who held the die in her hand.

"Well…em...at least you must feel even better...and then why stay in your forties when you can be in your thirties?" Sharon stammered, smiling nervously.

"Alice? Are you okay?" Nicole asked, not knowing what to say.

Alice seemed to calm down despite the situation. "It's okay...I've thought it over and here it is, I don't think it's Sharon's fault, or anyone else's. It's the dice. I feel like they want to be rolled" Alice looked Sharon in the eye.

"Here's what you're going to do Sharon, as soon as you get home you're going to lock the dice in a box so they don't roll around inside. Then you're going to protect the box as best you can and hide it somewhere at home, somewhere only you can remember, understand?"

Sharon nodded, "Y-yes, I'll be very careful, I've already got an idea of where to put it". The young executive finished, then after exchanging phone numbers, Sharon left the bookshop and got into her car. Let's hope nothing happens by the time she gets home, because if the dice really want to be rolled, maybe nothing can stop them...
