The booth made a weird sound like an old electrical device charging, then there was suddenly a huge flash of light. Alia blinked desperately trying to get rid of the random spots throughout her vision. The light had been so intense, there was no way no one noticed.
Just as Alia's vision began to return to normal, she managed to make out a message on the screen.
[SELECTION COMPLETE. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE NU-LIFE EXPERIENCE.]
Alia stumbled out of the booth, still disoriented from the spots in her vision. Having grabbed her bag, Alia weaved her way out the door and into the street, still a little off-kilter but determined not to spend any more time in the messed-up booth. It wasn't until she was nearly half-way to her apartment that her vision cleared to the point that she reached for her phone...only to realize she left it in the booth.
"Crap!" Alia cursed, then paused. Her voice sounded a little weird, maybe she was coming down with a cold. But then something pulled her up short. Her clothes. They were...weird? Like, robes...definitely not what she was wearing this morning. And definitely not something she would usually wear. They looked like something off a fantasy movie set. Did she pass out in the booth? Did something creepy happen? Starting to get a little freaked out, Alia started running back to the store to retrieve her phone, and maybe figure out what was going on.
Finally reaching the door, Alia reached out to yank it open...and failed. The door was locked. Apparently, she was too late, and the store had closed for the day. It was only at that point, staring at the tinted glass door of the store, that Alia noticed the unusual reflection. Instead of her face, looking back at her was a man wearing the robes she happened to be wearing, with silvery hair, and...
Were those...ears? Not regular ears, but like a dog's ears, or maybe a.... Wait, what is that back there?!
Alia reached behind her, the man in the reflection mirroring her actions, and touched something. No, she also felt something touch her, in a way that shouldn't be possible. She...or he, now...had a tail!
At the moment Alia thought she...or he?...might pass out, she suddenly doubled over with a massive headache. Memories of a different life began pouring into his head, somehow existing in parallel with her own. Alia gasped at the new life he was suddenly thrust into.
