"Hey Travis can you give us a hand," Spark called. Travis nodded, excusing himself as he entered the Morelands kitchen.
Getting Stephanie's boyfriend to themselves, Spark now began to enact her plan. The plan itself wasn't one of her better ones but, it would allow them to figure out what exactly Travis was. The only problem was what they would do, namely having Amara enter his mind. If Amara could enter his thoughts and view his dreams then maybe they could get a better picture of Travis. Spark though realized that when everything was said and done they would have to do alot of apologizing. "Hey guys you needed a hand with something?"
Spark rubbed her chin, studying the handsome teen before her. Standing a bit over six feet tall, Travis was certainly a physical specimen with well defined muscle, a cute face, and well maintained dirty blonde hair. It was easy to see why the girls were all taken by the well mannered teen but Spark still had her suspicions. "Hey Travis," she smirked. "Can you help us take these drinks out."
"Sure no problem," he replied, the teen taking a couple bottles in his hands. "So," Spark continued. "You and your family just moved into town. Any reason why?"
"Well my folks were able to get a deal on the mortuary," he said. "Plus, my mom really wanted to open her own flower shop. The place she got was probably the cheapest in the area."
"Any other reasons," Spark asked, giving the teen a coy look. "Like, something out of the ordinary?" Travis paused, giving the punky looking girl a curious look. "No," he said slowly. "That's pretty much it. Why do you ask?" Spark wasn't buying what Travis was saying, slowly she now circled the teen, her eyes studying him carefully. "Um are you okay Spark," he asked. "Your acting kinda weird."
"Weird huh," Spark smirked. "Are you an expert in weird stuff Travis?" Travis raised an eyebrow, still confused about what Spark was doing. "Um no not really," he replied, the teen still not understanding what Spark was thinking. "Oh cmon Travis," Spark smirked. "Lets not be coy. We both know there's something up with you."
"Umm not sure what your talking about," Travis said nervously. "I'm just a normal guy doing normal guy stuff." Spark sighed, furrowing her brow as she stared into Travis's eyes. "Guess we're doing this the hard way. Amara." Travis turned, his eyes going wide in surprise as he watched the chubby girls face begin to change. Amara's eyes growing in size, taking on a cat like shape as her mouth spread wider and a pair of horns grew from her forehead. Before he could even respond, he felt an odd sensation wash over him as Amara tried to enter his mind.
What happened next took both Amara and Spark by surprise. As soon as Amara tried to enter Travis's mind, the teen yelped, her body launched backwards as she crashed into the cupboard behind her. "Amara," Spark exclaimed. "Holy shit," Amara whispered. "That...that was intense!"
"What happened?"
"I...I don't know," Amara whispered, the mara's eyes unfocused as she gazed into Sparks face. "I...I..entered his mind and then I saw the universe spread out before me." Amara now paused as she slowly waved her hand in front of her face, a small giggle escaping her lips. "I think I'm high!"
"Shes high on life," Travis sighed. Spark now turned, her jaw dropping as she now beheld Travis. So concerned for Amara's well being she had not seen Travis transform. Travis now stood before the two of them, a cloak of shadows surrounding him. Spark watched as the cloak seemed to writhe as if it was alive. Travis's face was visible beneath the hood of the cloak, his face sullen. The teen appearing embarrassed by his display of power. Spark though wasn't as concerned about Travis's face as she saw what was clutched in his hand. "Is that a scythe!"
"Yeah," Travis replied sadly. "Sorry I....I didn't want to say anything. I..I just wanted to be normal."
"What are you?"
Travis turned, his shoulders slumping as he now noticed the others filing into the kitchen. Apparently the commotion had caused everyone to rush into the kitchen, the group bewildered to see Stephanie's new boyfriend cloaked in a dark robe that seemed to swirl around him like dark mist. "It's complicated," he said softly. "But..I'm the son of Life and Death." The others now gaped, staring in astonishment at the teen that was cloaked in the robe of the Grim Reaper. "I'm..I'm sorry," Travis said softly. "I should go."
"Wait," Nat said quickly. "You don't have to go." Travis raised an eyebrow, the teen watching as the group gave him a sympathetic smile. "I just wanted to have a normal time with friends," he sighed. "I was scared you would be freaked out if you saw my powers."
"Well lucky for you none of us are very normal, " Stephanie said, slowly approaching her boyfriend with a sympathetic smile. "Pretty much everybody here is strange in their own way."
"Shes not wrong," Nat stated. "I mean I'm a dhamphir, Rei's a wizard, Miranda's a majokko, Connors a demon hunter, even Spark there is a fairy."
"You're a fairy," Travis asked.
"Yeah," Spark replied sheepishly. "Probably how I sensed something was up with you. Sorry about sicking a mara on you. Thought you might be dangerous."
"Um not to change the subject but is Amara going to be okay," Miranda asked as she looked at her giddy girlfriend. "Yeah she should be good in about 15 minutes," Travis said softly. "Sorry, I'm still learning about my powers."
Nat and the others simply nodded, still in shock to be gazing at something that was far beyond anything they had ever seen before.
