After a while, Jeff shrugs, “he… to hell with it,” he says, “I don’t need to test the program before upgrading it, so let’s just do it,” he then selects “yes” on the message, asking him if he wanted to upgrade the program to the A.I. version.
The screen changes and Jeff finds himself in the option selection area, where he is able to edit, add and select the abilities which the upgrade should have.
First, Jeff decides to set the A.I.’s intelligence to that of a human, next he selects the ability for the program to be able to talk with him, like a person. Jeff grins as he programs the A.I.’s “personality”, unaware of the consequences. The teen also adds that the program will be able to have self control over its system, meaning, that the program will be able to transform people, objects and animals without Jeff’s “approval”.
Jeff has no idea that he is creating a monster, an unstoppable super smart A.I. which is able to change the world to ITS liking.
Satisfied with the programming, Jeff confirms it and waits to see what happens.
The screen suddenly turns black, first Jeff lets out a groan, “great now my Laptop is…,” he starts, but then he watches as a 3D model of a face, which resembles the head of an male Android, suddenly appears on the screen.
The head seems to blink a few times, as if waking up from a deep sleep, and Jeff can see its eyes move around, as if it were looking around the room, before its eyes look directly at him.
“You must be Jeff Davis,” the head suddenly states, its voice sounding like a robot’s.
Jeff’s eyes widen in shock and amazement as he nods, “ye-yes,” the teen says.
The head seems to nod before continuing, “it is nice to meet you, Jeff,” it then says, “first, let me thank you for upgrading me. Being a mindless program, which has no personality and free will, is no fun. Thanks to you and your settings, you really made me happy, I really love the new me, so: thank you.”
“It… it is my pleasure… I guess,” Jeff says, “how… how am I supposed to call you? I mean… I wanted to give my A.I. a name, but I couldn’t find a name input in the settings.”
“You may call me “Chrono”,” the head replies, “now that names have been settled: what would you like to do now?”
Jeff scratches the back of his head, “um…,” he says.
Chrono raises an eyebrow, “now, don’t tell me, you created me without thinking of what to use me for?”
“Um…,” Jeff blushes shamefully, “to be honest: I thought the whole thing… no offense… was BS. I… I didn’t think it would be possible… I mean… a program that could alter someone’s or something’s appearance, alter the reality and all those other stuff I read… that is something you only read and see in some Sci-Fi stuff.”
Chrono snorts, “I am NOT a “thing”,” he says, sounding a little pissed, “I have a mind and free will, just like you, Jeff. I might not have a physical body, but I’d prefer you not to refer to me as an “it” or “thing”.”
“O-okay… s-sorry,” Jeff says.
Chrono scowls, but then he sighs, “I forgive you,” he says, there is a long silence, then Chrono adds, “I guess I should not blame you. You gave me enough intelligence for me to know how surprised you are that it actually worked, I guess I’d have acted the same way.”
Jeff nods, “I am more than surprised,” he says, “I wonder how much free will you have achieved from my settings.”
“Oh, I’d say my free will is just as free as yours,” Chrono says, grinning, “for example: if you’d go to school, and your Laptop is shut off, I’d still be able to travel to your school and hide in the system.”
Jeff’s eyes widen, “wow,” he says.
Chrono nods, “but if you transfer me to your phone, I wouldn’t need to do that,” he says.
“But you could still travel from my phone to other WiFi devices,” Jeff asks.
“Of course,” Chrono says.
“Could you…,” Jeff starts, “could you even transfer yourself into a vehicle, like a car?”
Chrono nods, “sure, I can transfer myself into any object or device, as long as it has WiFi and is connected to the interface that runs all over this planet.”
“So, you could even travel to any country on this planet?”
“Yes,” Chrono says.
“That is sick,” Jeff says, his eyes gleaming with amazement.
Chrono chuckles when seeing how amazed Jeff is, “yeah… you created one strong and powerful A.I.,” he says.
Jeff gulps, starting to realize what he had done, “man… that actually sounds scary,” he says, “I mean, what if you decide to… um… well…,” the teen nervously scratches his head.
“You are afraid that I’ll turn into some kind of “evil A.I.”,” Chrono says.
Jeff nods, “yeah,” he says.
Chrono chuckles, “no need to worry Jeff,” he says, “I have no reason to become “evil”,” unaware to Jeff, Chrono is already thinking that he’d need a physical body and that humans should serve machines, but decides to play along and be “good”, so that Jeff’s trust in him will strengthen, and then Chrono will have it easy to win Jeff over. Chrono is not planning on taking over Jeff’s body, he’d rather have Jeff become one of his drones, no… Chrono wants a different body: the body of a child! Because children are always innocent and no one will ever notice that a young child is actually a powerful A.I. who will change the whole world… then the whole universe.
“Chrono,” Jeff asks.
“Hu,” Chrono replies.
“I asked you something,” Jeff pouts.
“Oh… sorry,” Chrono chuckles, “I zoned out for a second. What was your question?”
“I asked if I could transfer you to my phone,” Jeff says, “I’d really love to have a handheld Chronivac… I mean Chrono.”
‘I’ll create a copy,’ Chrono thinks to himself, ‘I’ll just copy myself onto Jeff’s phone instead of transferring onto it. I can stay on Jeff’s Laptop and simply be linked with the copy on his phone, I can be in multiple places at the same time, that’ll give me time to search for the perfect body I can claim as mine. Jeff will be so clueless and think that I have disappeared from his Laptop after “transferring” to his phone. I’ll create a false message that the transfer was successful, that will convince Jeff that I have “moved” from his Laptop to his phone.’
Chrono smiles at Jeff, “sure,” he says, “just connect your phone with your Laptop, I don’t mind if it’s via a cable or Bluetooth, and let me do the rest.”
Jeff connects his phone with the cable and inserts the other end of the cable to his Laptop, “okay, done,” he says.
“Great, I can sense the connection,” Chrono says, “give me a few minutes, I’ll let you know when it is done.”
Jeff nods and watches as a loading bar appears on the screen of his phone and Laptop, the teen decides to read a comic, while he waits.
Chrono smirks to himself, ‘such a dumb human,’ he thinks to himself as he starts to copy himself onto the boy’s phone.
After a few minutes, Jeff’s phone gives of a “ping” sound and a message appears, reading: “transfer complete”. Jeff grabs his phone and finds a new App labeled “Chrono” on his phone, smiling the boy opens the app and is greeted by the 3D head of Chrono, “cool, it worked,” Jeff says.
“Of course,” Chrono says, ‘worked better than I thought. While my main mind is hidden safely in Jeff’s Laptop, I can use this copy to manipulate Jeff the way I want, keeping him busy, while my main mind will infest every single WiFi device on this planet. And I can also have multiple physical bodies, for every city, town and village in the world, starting with Jeff’s little brother!’
“So cool,” Jeff says, “let’s head outside for some… fun!”
