A month into being a dragoness, Rose Quartz realized she had a problem. Her belly was beginning to swell. That could only mean one thing. Carnelian had succeeded in impregnating her. Rose Quartz was frustrated but also relieved, as she was struggling to come up with a plan for returning to Prince Jasper. Now, she had plenty of time to think, as she would need to lay and incubate the eggs, then tend to the hatchlings until they were self-sufficient.
Two months into being a dragoness, Rose Quartz was too large to fly. She could read the writing on the wall. By the time she laid the eggs, she might be too big to move. She hunted and gathered as much food as she would need, should that be the case, and also dug a small pool inside her cave to be a supply of water. In the meantime, she dug more rooms for her home. By the time she was too big to move well, she had made a storage room for food, a room for the eggs once they hatched, a larger room for her, and an additional one, just in case.
Three months into being a dragoness, Rose Quartz was woken from her sleep by a contraction. She quickly got into a squat and began to push, following her body’s instincts. When she finished, she looked down and counted how many eggs she had just laid.
