It was a packed night at Mermaid’s cove as every day of Spring Break had been so far, and the money was coming in fast as did the orders. Susan was behind the bar, making drinks as fast as possible before handing them off to the customers all of whom where either her age or close enough to make no matter.
“Cheers to…Alpha Delta…” yelled a women as she sat on one of the benches beside one of the long tables which was full of what Susan believed to be the women’s sorority sisters. The ocean water went up to about waist high and everyone was enjoying the atmosphere but was that something across her shoulder blades?
“Kiss…kiss…kiss.” Chanted two drunk men as they watched two of Susan’s coworkers both dressed as mermaids draw each other closer in a "Fake" passionate kiss.
Susan shrugged, she had done that multiple times when she was on duty as a mermaid to the point that kissing someone as a mermaid was just part of the job. Still she knew some of her coworkers would only kiss either mermaids or merman depending on their orientation. One of the guys who was currently dressed as a merman may look like a muscle bond hulk which drove women crazy but he was a stereotypical gay man in real life and so he would only kiss other men.
“Susan, I got some more mixed drinks for you.” Said her co-bartender for the night Matt as he handed down some of the fruity drinks from the “dry” bar named so because it was on dry land.
“Thanks Matt.” said Susan as Matt’s hand lingered slightly longer then it should have on Susan’s.
As Matt turned away Susan noticed a line of scales running down the back of his left knee as he wore a pair of company swim trunks, that was a strange place to put them. Still, she had scales covered her nipples at the moment and some around her eyes to make it look like she was still a mermaid even as she worked the bar without a tail. Maybe Matt was trying something new.
Truth be told, she knew Matt had a crush on her and she did find him attractive but dating a coworker was always trouble.
“Susan can I have a drink.” Asked Amber as she swam up to the bar and took a seat as Amber poured out a green non-alcoholic drink she knew Amber liked. Her coworker’s mermaid tail under the raised bar.
“Amber, aren’t you suppose to be dry side tonight?” inquired Susan, the mermaids and merman where allowed to sit at the bar from time to time to rest and they drew attention to the bar just as much as they did when they were swimming around.
“I was.” Confirmed Amber as she stretched out as best she could in her tail. “But I don’t know why but the my skin started breaking out, only water seamed to help so I asked Mary to switch.”
“I see.” stated Susan as she began to take a drink and for a moment Susan thought she saw that Amber now had small amount webbing running from between her elbow and her chest. She was about to ask about the new addition to her suit when a women came up.
“Hello beautiful can I have some of your time.” Stated the women as she pulled out some cash and a wink. “I heard…”
“You heard right, come let this mermaid take care of you for a moment.” Said Amber as she moved away toward a more private area to give the customer an under the water hand job. On more than some levels, Susan wished Amber was doing that to her.
As a bisexual herself, Susan would go either way, at the moment however she didn’t have a boyfriend or a girlfriend and truth be told she wasn’t sure which one she liked more than the other. Amber or Matt, she was attracted to both in their own way but she wasn’t sure whom she liked more and either way doing it with a coworker was asking for trouble.
A couple hours later, Susan began to notice more and more strange things.
It was small at first, the couple talking at one of the tables seemed different now. The man’s short beard was gone as if he had somehow shaved it perfectly smoothed without touching it. Was that women’s bust somehow bigger than it was before? Did that man have scales on the back of his knee as he got out of the water or was that a trick of the light. There were dozens and dozens of small tiny things that seamed to be wrong but the place was packed and she had to keep moving.
“Dude…you got some scales on your stomach.” Laughed a man to another as he sat at the bar, Susan looked at the man and saw some black scales on his stomach near the bellybutton and going down to touch his swim trunks.
“I must have gotten lucky with a mermaid tonight.” Laughed the man with the scales.
“The scales are black.” Said Susan to herself, none of her coworkers had any outfit with black scales on tonight, that was reserved for special events.
