"Okay," Jess said. Her voice had a faint quiver in it. She pulled the cork off the vial and held it to her lips. She hesitated for just a moment, then took a large sip. She stuck out her tongue in surprise. "Gah, that is weird stuff."
Mary giggled, waiting for the first sign of Jess' change. She didn't have to wait very long. Jess' ears were already forming points and growing larger. Jess detected the change as well, and threw her hands up to feel them. Light fur met her touch and she shivered.
"This is surreal," she moaned. She brought her shaking hands down to see them grow long claws. "Oh!" she hopped in the air, grabbing her backside.
"Your tail?" Mary smiled in excitement.
"Yeah...," Jess said, never expecting to say these words. "It's...my tail." She pulled her pants down and watched as a fluffy black tail emerged from her back. It grew several feet long and swished around playfully, mirroring Jess' excitement. "It's so weird! I have a tail! And ears!" Her now-fully cat ears were sitting atop her head, flicking back and forth. Black fur had grown on their outer skin.
The changes appeared to have stopped, so Jess replaced the cat vial into the box. Mary walked around her friend, surveying the changes. "Very nice," she approved. "Two paws up!"
Jess laughed. She was even feeling somewhat like a cat, and right now had a strange hankering for some tuna fish.
"So what now?" she asked her small friend.
