Mary fixed herself a salad and loaded it up with a heaping helping of shredded Parmesan. After that, she nibbled on another wedge of Swiss.
While she was scarfing her lunch, she thought of something to do while waiting for more of her body to change. She usually went for strolls in the park on weekends, but with the mouse vial altering her body she didn't have long before appearing in public was completely out of the question.
She finished her cheese and went to change her clothes. She had some pink sweats in her closet with a drawstring on the pants that she could use to adjust whenever she needed to. She snaked her tail down one leg, and the looser fabric of the sweatpants was much more comfortable than the pants she had on before. After some digging, she located the smallest shoes she owned. They were white and blue sneakers which felt a bit too small on her feet, but she knew that wasn't going to be a concern for much longer. To cover her ears she used a pink bandanna as a headband. It looked rather unfashionable, but it was better than nothing.
She walked a few blocks to the park. Her feet felt awfully cramped, but she knew it was a small price to pay to make sure she wasn't forced to walk barefoot later on. The air was fresh and cool, the sun was warm and all about her were people of all ages going about the activities one would expect in a public park. Some children were kicking a soccer ball around, a married couple having a picnic were trying to feed a chipmunk some bread, two elderly women sat on a bench and reminisced about their high school prom.
As Mary continued down the path, she began to feel like an outsider. She knew she was slowly becoming something not human, and she was already forced to hide certain parts of herself for fear of embarrassment, or worse, causing some kind of panic. She tried to quell those thoughts by assuring herself she could always use the human vial to change back to normal, but until she found herself back in the comfort and privacy of her own home, there was still a fear of having her transformation exposed.
