“What’s going to happen when nobody comes to get me?” Kelly wondered to herself. “What if they call child-services? Or would they call that kid’s parents? What would a normal person do if a mysterious girl claimed to be their daughter?” The shrunken teen decided that she needed to contact someone for help.
Thus, the question became, who to call? Her friends Jen and Denise were the first to come to mind, but how would they respond to Kelly’s situation? Denise had always craved a little sister and tended to go goofy with toddlers. Furthermore, the teenager wondered whether a pair of high schoolers could pick up a toddler from daycare.
Second in Kelly’s thoughts was her older sister Jen, who would undoubtedly be understanding after the teenager explained the situation. On the other hand, Jen had a two-year-old daughter, Katie. Kelly’s niece would be starting daycare soon, and Jen might jump on the chance to have her sister guide her toddler daughter. The teenager imagined being sent to daycare until her niece settled and shuddered.
Of course, there was always Kelly’s aunt. Shortly after Jen had given birth to Katie, the teenager’s single Aunt decided to have a child of her own. Kelly’s cousin Sara was younger than Katie, so the teenager wouldn’t be expected to return to daycare. Although Sara didn’t have too many kids in the neighborhood to play with, and Kelly’s aunt tended to spoil her daughter. If the teenager called her aunt, she might end up Sara’s playmate for a while.
Lastly, Kelly could always call her mother, explain the situation, and take whatever punishment she had. But, indeed, the teenager’s mom was mad that her daughter had gone missing all day, and then there was Kelly’s eight-year-old sister Megan. Did the teenager want her little sister to see her like this? Although, indeed, Kelly would have to face her mother sooner or later.
The shrunken teen watched as toddlers grabbed their toys and backpacks; pick-up time was nearing, and her window was quickly closing. Who should Kelly call?
