Karltin waited until the dragon, named Spark, fell asleep. Once he was asleep, Karltin silently cast a charm to make him sleep even deeper. Then, she bolted out of Spark’s lair as quickly as she could. Part of her was upset to leave behind the egg, but it wasn’t worth being forced to become some hotshot male dragon’s mate! She would be just fine without the egg.
The golden dragoness flew for hours before she felt she was far enough away from Spark. She landed in a small wooden glen with a pond of water. She drank from it thirstily. With her thirst satiated, Karltin set about returning to her male and human form. She closed her eyes and silently cast the spell. When her eyes opened, however, she saw a female reflection in the lake.
Karltin was human once more, but still female. She was a remarkably petite woman, with fine features and a shapely body. Her blonde hair cascaded down her back beautifully. Karltin scowled. She tried to cast the spell to return to being male, but nothing happened. A few more times, she attempted, but each failed.
Finally, Karltin resigned herself to being a human female for now. She needed to sleep. Once she rested, she would revisit this problem. Karltin wandered through the woods for a bit before she came across a small farm. She ducked into the barn and fell asleep on the hay.
