When she arrived in her home, Anya quickly realized that hatching a dragon's egg was not going to be as easy as she'd assumed. Would thrusting the egg in the fire not burn it? Probably. And how would she keep such an egg properly warm? To what temperature? She couldn't just lay on it like a hen. And certainly not for days or weeks on end. Of course, she could change herself into a female dragon to brood the egg containing her former lover herself but the idea repulsed her profoundly. She knew herself to be gorgeous and the idea of becoming a giant lizard held no appeal to her at all. Yew! She'd have to stop having fun with men or flirting or enjoying herself at the taverns around the region. It would all be so boring! To sit there all day with nothing to do... What a drag! What a bore! And then, she got an idea. A brilliant idea. If she did not want to be a mother to this egg... well, another could do it. She'd get a person to become a female dragon and to wait around the egg and hatch it instead of her. Brilliant. So she rushed out in search of a person to be tricked into being transformed into a dragon who'd do the job.
It did not take too long to find the perfect person. A young girl of fourteen she'd spotted reading books before at her parent's big tavern. She was known to be a real fairy and dragon addict, reading all that she could on the subject. But would she accept to be a dragon to hatch an egg that would not be hers? To leave her parents for maybe months? Probably not. Her parents wouldn't allow her to. Moreover, she'd change as a young juvenile dragon and would not be the best fit around the egg. On the other hand, she'd eat much less. Well, trickery would help her here. Anya thus approached the young maiden, named Ocean. She asked her cunningly what she already knew, if she was the girl who liked elves. Ocean answered with enthusiasm and Anya said that if she'd asked, it was because she had some old books on the topic she wanted to sell. The maiden followed her and Anya was glad that she had not told her parents or that no one saw them. Once in her home, Ocean asked where the books were. Anya just told her that if she liked dragons so much, she could be one. Ocean transformed at once into a turquoise, blue and while juvenile dragon. Anya made a chain appear, and it tied itself to Ocean's ankle. She told Ocean she'd change her back, or into an elf or fairy as a reward once the task was done and the egg had hatched. A very saddened Ocean had to curl around the egg as best she could and settle herself into a long wait.
