Matilda Simmons, an old and stern teacher finds the dice

added 10 days ago AR BM

Matilda Simmons, aged 64, sat alone at her desk in the dimly lit classroom. She had always been a conservative and stern teacher, known for her authoritarian demeanor. Matilda wore a dull gray skirt that draped over her knees, paired with a shapeless white blouse that did little to hide her ample frame. Orthopedic shoes, practical but far from fashionable, completed her uninspiring ensemble.
Matilda's appearance matched her personality. Her once-curly hair had long since turned gray and lay in unkempt disarray. Glasses perched precariously on the end of her nose, and her stern, round face bore the weariness of decades spent dealing with unruly students.
Her bitterness was legendary among colleagues and students alike. She resented her pupils for their youthful energy and often took out her frustrations with her authoritative voice and harsh discipline. She was, to put it mildly, far from a beloved teacher.
It was Friday evening, and Matilda had just finished grading a stack of essays. Retirement couldn't come soon enough, and the mere thought of leaving behind the chaos of the classroom brought a rare, almost imperceptible smile to her lips.
As she was about to leave her classroom, she noticed a peculiar package on her desk. Wrapped in plain brown paper, it bore her name and address. She had no recollection of ordering anything.
Her curiosity got the better of her, and she unwrapped the package, revealing a velvet holder containing two glass dice. They appeared ordinary, but a strange glimmer caught her attention. She picked them up, her wrinkled hands trembling.
"Hmm," she muttered, memories of her youth and lost opportunities resurfacing. She had been so focused on discipline and control that she had missed out on so much in life.
She rolled the dice on her desk, half-expecting nothing to happen. To her astonishment, they landed on the number six. The room seemed to blur momentarily, and an unfamiliar sensation washed over her.
Matilda's heart pounded in her chest as she realized what had occurred. She looked down at herself, her clothes fitting looser, her hair turning from gray to a rich brown, and her wrinkles slowly fading away.
"No...no, this can't be real," she stammered, her voice quivering with disbelief. The transformation was undeniable, but it defied all reason.
Then, the spirit of the dice materialized before her. "Greetings," it said. "You have rolled the Regressing Lots, and your age has decreased. With each throw, you will regain your lost youth."
Matilda's reaction was a mix of awe and terror. She was granted a second chance at youth, something she had long yearned for beneath her stern exterior. Yet, her mind raced with fear of the unknown and the profound changes this would bring to her life.
The spirit disappeared, leaving Matilda to contemplate her situation. She knew she needed to find out more about these dice, but her mind was overwhelmed with a swirl of emotions. Retirement was on the horizon, but Matilda's journey to regain her youth had just begun, and she struggled to come to terms with the remarkable transformation that had taken place.
