It felt like Pearl was waking from a long sleep. She opened her eyes and frantically began to scratch the walls of her prison. The prison cracked. Pearl stuck a claw through. From there, it was easy enough to break out of the egg the rest of the way. She fell onto the floor of the nest, panting with exertion. She let out a squeak of shock as she felt someone pick her up.
"A darling daughter!" said the voice of a male dragon. "Sunshower, what name should we give her?"
"Pearl," said the voice of a female dragon.
"Perfect! Her scales shine just like one!" To Pearl's horror, a long tongue began to caress her body, cleaning off the gunk from her egg. Once she was clean, she was turned around. A bronze male dragon held her, while a petite golden dragoness lay behind him, her belly swollen with eggs. "Welcome to the world, Pearl. I am your father, Spark, and she is your mother, Sunshower. Now, let us feed you."
Pearl didn't know what was going on. Where was the witch that had turned her into an egg? Why were two dragons acting like she was their offspring? Where even was she? Her belly rumbled hungrily and she opened her mouth instinctively for food. To her disgust, dragons feed their young the same way birds did, by regurgitating. But it was tasty nonetheless, so she ate until she was full. Then, Spark brought her over to Sunshower.
"Cuddle with your mother while I fetch more food," Spark instructed. Pearl did as she was told, curling next to the dragoness's distended belly. Sunshower covered her with one of her wings. Her belly full and body warm, Pearl quickly drifted off to sleep.
