I tried to keep my breathing even, but this new magic was proving quite strenuous. It was like trying to push a balloon into a non-spherical shape from all directions, but when you pressed in one place, the balloon would expand somewhere else. Focused on my inner magic, I paid no attention to Duke Fagult, even though he was right in front of me. Morgana, considerately, did not draw my attention away from my task.
I could see the rabbit form taking shape within the magic, and was nearly there. Just as I was on the verge of success, I felt a slight whoosh, almost as though someone had let a bit of the air out of my magic balloon. Still, I could not afford to investigate, as I needed to stabilize the magic and sever the connection. Finally, I focused my eyes and looked at what I had wrought.
In the middle of the circle, where once had stood the cocky Duke Fagult, was now a furry, quivering mass. I could see the long rear paws and the cottony tail. Even the fur was perfect...but my gaze halted as I saw the head. Watching for my reaction, Morgana guffawed at my realization. My ears twitched in discomfort. Wait...my ears?!
I reached upward. Yes, it was no illusion. Although he resembled a normal rabbit in every other aspect, on either side of Duke Fagult's rabbit head were...normal human ears. Which meant, as my hands confirmed, in place of my own ears were a pair of soft, long, upright rabbit ears.
"Hahaha! Quite amusing for your first try, little princess," Morgana snickered as she wiped tears of laughter from her eyes. "Do not feel too bad, for my first transformation I ended up with a rat's tail. Entertaining, but rather inconvenient," Morgana continued as she circled me, evaluating. "At least hypersensitive ears have their advantages."
"I...don't want to be stuck like this!" I stammered. "How do I change myself back?!"
"Patience, little princess," Morgana sneered. "You've used up your magic for now. It will have to wait until you've recovered your energy," Morgana stated as she scruffed Duke Fagult-the-bunny and thrust him towards me. "In the meantime, see to this. Once you've managed to correct your mistake, we'll move on to the other test subjects."
"But, what am I supposed to do while I'm waiting? I can't go anywhere like this?" I asked Morgana.
"For now," Morgana smirked. "You had better..."
