As it turned out, Pyrona and Ignis were good parents as dragons went. Day after day, they cared for the eggs, enveloping them with their bodies for heat, not to mention their magic. Noble dragons were much more magically attuned than their lesser cousins, and they often hatched their eggs as much through magic as incubation. This allowed them to equip their offspring with enough magic to tide them over until they developed their own supply. It also allowed them to convey their parental emotions to the hatchlings.
Thus, while slumbering in their shells, both Karltin and Pearl were constantly bathed in their parents' love. It was unlike anything they had ever experienced in their former lives as an arrogant witch prodigy or a spoiled prince. Even if either had been fully aware during this time, it would have been unlikely they could have resisted for long. As it was, Pyrona and Ignis soon felt an answering spark of love sent back to them from the eggs. The family bond had been made.
At last, as if by some common signal, both eggs began to hatch simultaneously. Tiny claws clumsily poked through the shells and pushed the shards aside. Pyrona and Ignis nuzzled each other with joy as they watched two newborn dragonesses emerged into the world.
Immediately, it became clear that the parents' magic had wrought another effect on the hatchlings.
