Yevgeny saddled his horse, Thunder. Anya was fast asleep in her room, unaware that her brother was leaving to retrieve Sassy for her. He was tempted to disguise himself, but he wasn’t a former Royal Concubine like Anya, or any sort of notable person, so he wouldn’t attract any less attention being disguised. He would just wear plain, sturdy clothes to downplay the wealth of his family. With his blond hair, he wasn’t likely to be harassed anyways. The only people who messed with witches were those who had death wishes.
“When Anya awakes, tell her I have gone to retrieve her horse,” Yevgeny informed the stable boy helping him. The stable boy frowned.
“Why go to such lengths for a mere horse?” he asked.
“Sassy is more than a mere horse to my sister. She is one of the few things Anya was able to bring from the Palace when she fled,” Yevgeny lied. The information that Sassy was secretly Prince Jasper was on a strict need to know basis. The stable boy nodded. Yevgeny mounted Thunder and set off. He could make excellent time with Thunder, who was part of a horse breed called the Witch’s Pony. They were magical horses with higher stamina, speed, and strength, after generations of being bred in close proximity to magical beings.
As Yevgeny rode, he decided that once he reached Sassy, he would turn the former Prince into a Witch’s Pony stallion. That was more suitable and would make traveling back to Wind’s Grove easier. Honestly, the amulet turning Sassy into a mare was practically asking for trouble.
