The pod found its way to a remote patch of land near the planet's southern pole. The temperatures there would keep its core from overheating, and keep the natives, if there were any, from interrupting its task. After setting down, the pod confirmed that this planet did indeed have sentient life. Bipedal mammals not unlike its creators. But these mammals had a biology and societal structure entirely unlike the pod's creators. The whole species was divided nearly evenly between males and females, with males competing for the affection of females through various methods, most of which did not involve physical or mental prowess. In contrast, the pod's creators were all born as males, and their development came in two phases. The first occurred at around the same time as human puberty and involved simply the growth of individuals into an adult body. The second occurred roughly around the 19th or 20th year of development, when males would enter a malleable state. Males in their second puberty would struggle for dominance, with the less dominant members of that particular generation shedding their male genitals and becoming female until a 9:1 ratio of females to males remained. This small cadre of males would remain at home, rearing their children with the assistance of elderly females, while younger females would operate the day to day running of society. This, the pod thought, was a more efficient system. Males, often prone to violence and impulsiveness, were really only necessary for mating. The current patriarchal societal structure of the "humans" the pod had found was a constant source of conflict and poor governance. Having a mostly female population had allowed the pod's creators to advance their society with a minimum of conflict. Thus, before imparting any knowledge to them, the pod decided to "fix" human biology to match that of its creators.
