Though the farmer and Gelvin discussed other options than merely selling Sassy to Yevgeny, when the time came, the farmer opted to sell her. The amount of money he offered was simply too high to pass on. The farmer would be able to purchase three new Arabians with the gold from selling Sassy and her unborn foal.
Relieved that the farmer agreed to the sale without any issues, Yevgeny rode Sassy to the inn where he was staying. She was only four months along, after all, so she could still be ridden. In two months, when she began showing, however, riding her would be harmful to her foal.
At the inn, Yevgeny first cast a simple charm on Sassy that would enable him to know where she was at all times. Then, he explained to her who he was and why he was there. Sassy couldn’t communicate in language with him, but she was able to stomp her hooves to answer yes or no questions. Through this, Yevgeny discussed with her the options before them.
Bringing Sassy to Wind’s Grove as soon as possible was the highest priority. However, she couldn’t be ridden as hard as Anya had ridden to Wind’s Grove without risking harm to both her and her foal. If they took their time, she might give birth before they even reached the Eastern Hills. And any transformation spells Yevgeny could perform were limited due to Sassy’s pregnancy. While he brushed her down, Yevgeny told Sassy their options, and asked her which she wished to do.
Sassy thought for a bit, then stomped her hooves to indicate what she wanted to do.
