Pearl knew she had to tell Turquoise the truth. One day, while the two “siblings” were eating their dinner, she spoke up.
“Turquoise, I was once a human as well,” she squeaked.
“I suspected as such,” Turquoise said. He used the rib bone of a deer to pick his teeth. “Did I know you in your former life?”
“Yes.”
“Really? Who were you?”
“…Prince Jasper,” Pearl mumbled weakly. Turquoise stared at her. He got to his feet, walked to her, and sniffed her deeply.
“I can smell the Royal Bloodline on you,” he remarked after a moment. “Hmm.” He sat down. “I am sorry you have been degraded like this, My Prince.”
“I have come to accept my lot in life,” Pearl sighed.
“Honestly, that is the wisest move to make. Fighting will only cause you mental distress. It is best for us both to embrace our new lives as dragons.” Turquoise smiled at her. “Though I must admit, I am happy to have been assigned as your big brother. I can continue to protect you like I did in our former lives.” Pearl nodded, smiling as well. “Now, little sister, go wash up. You are filthy with dinner.”
Pearl and Turquoise settled into a happy life as brother and sister. Antyny, displeased with his failure to properly punish the two, put a new plan into motion to disrupt the dragons’ lives.
