Aquaris swam down from her chambers where she had slept for thousands of years and down pass her throne and down to the grand hallway. The massive hall was in the center of the palace with her throne high above the stone coral floor. There were multiple arches which seamed to lead into a solid stone wall, however with a wave of her hand everyone of the ancient portals opened.
Looking at the portals she decided which one she would go through. Until the mermaid population was large enough it was better to remain in the shadows. It wouldn’t be too hard for a human government to grab one of her future subjects or worse her and carry out experiments on her.
No not until the merpeople population was in the thousands if not larger it was too risky to put out the offer to transform people. Until then she would have to pick those who would be her new subjects and transform them herself and not on mass.
She picked one of her favorites portals and swam through it coming out in a cave before swimming outwards into the warm sunlight. The sea here was one of her personal favorites with large rocks shooting out into the sky with beautiful bays. The area was off the human nation of Vietnam they named Ha Long Bay and given the number of tour boats in the bay it was clear the humans liked this area as well.
She swam around for a few hours just enjoying the swim after so long being asleep. Finally, she found something that caught her eyes.
There appeared to be a series of small houses on stilts above the water, with a larger building behind it. From what she could see each house had a single family or group of people in it and each of them had a set of stairs leading down to the water. People were coming and
going from the ocean as they pleased, that was good for her because it would mean easier access to transform people.
She swam to one of the houses at the end, taking the risk and with the shadow of the building providing cover she lifted her head out of the water.
“I hope you enjoy your stay and if you should need anything feel free to ask any of the staff or the front desk at any time.” Said a voice as a figure closed a door above her and she flowed the man leave with her eyes.
“This is it, whomever is up there will be have the great honor of being the 1st of my new subjects.” Said Aquaris as she prepared herself.
