Scott rolled his eyes when he saw John starting to load up the truck with his uncle’s robe still on. “Please tell me you’re not wearing that thing home,” he laughed.
John grinned, “A wizard’s work is never done!”
The two brought a mishmash of outfits and garments back with them. John also loaded up some of his uncle’s old costuming supplies. Needle and thread, tape measures, and a box the original movers had decided to label “Prop Magic Books”.
John’s heart was still racing from having cast honest to goodness magic. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on a real spell book!
He knew he should be a bit more freaked out, but it somehow came second nature to him. When the two started airing out the costumes on their patio, it was trivial to vanish all the dust with a simple flick of his wrist. Scott kept commenting on how well preserved everything was.
“So… what are you going to try on first?” John scooted a bit closer to the group of costumes Scott was sorting through. He was absolutely going to freak when he changed. Best to nudge him towards something harmless.
“I was still thinking the werewolf maybe?” Scott held up a snarling mask, “How about you?”
“I’ve already got a costume on,” John grinned as he looked down at his robe, “Why don’t you start with something a bit more basic? How about a dog?”
Scott tilted his head, “Why a dog?”
Because John didn’t want a rampaging werewolf lose on the street! He was still getting a hang of all this!
“Think about it, do you want to be snarling and growling for the entire office party?” John grinned, “Everyone just expects the office dog to lounge around all day and bark at the occasional delivery person.”
“You’ve thought about this way too much,” Scott laughed.
“Costumes are my-“ John bit his lip. He was about to ramble something about his job being to find good costumes for his customers. Scott was his room mate, and this was their patio, not a costume shop. “They’re my favorite part of Halloween.”
“Uh huh,” Scott put down the werwolf garment bag and started poking around the other costumes they had brought home, “Let me see what my options are.”
