Jamie rolled over so that we could lie face to face. He stroked my cheek affectionately. I couldn't imagine what I must have looked like, sweaty and with my makeup smeared, yet my brother looked at me like I was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
"First thing's first, Joelle," he said, "I don't want to do anything that would separate us. This started out as just fun, forbidden sex, but the truth is, I've never felt more complete than when I'm inside you. It's probably too early to say that I'm in love with you, sister, but I'm not afraid to say that I could very easily fall in love with you if you let me."
I felt the blush rising on my cheeks as he spoke. "I think it's fair to say that I feel the same, Jamie. I love our nights together, and I never want them to stop."
"Then we're agreed," he said with a smile, "you and I are definitely a couple." He leaned in and gave me a quick, playful peck on the lips.
"Oh, we're definitely a couple," I agreed, and gave him a flirty shove on his chest. "A couple of fools for letting get into this situation."
"And second," he went on, as though I hadn't pretended to push him away, "I honestly like the idea of having a baby together. Who knows what life may throw our way that will pull us apart, but if we have a child together, a piece of me and a piece of you will always be mixed together."
"That's... that's beautiful!" I was at a loss for words, so I waved my hands around for a moment before something came to me. "I was kind of this-way, that-way about this baby, but with what you just said, I think for the first time, I absolutely want to have this baby. Your baby."
Jamie nodded. "So for us to stay together, and to have this baby and raise it up in love, I guess... well, here goes."
My brother jumped off the table and stood by my feet. I sat up to look at him, and as I did, he dropped to one knee. "Joelle, my one and only sister," he said, "will you marry me?"
I stared at him, my mouth hanging open in shock. I didn't expect this to happen so fast. Finally I said, "You know there's no legal way for a brother to marry his own sister."
"Not right now there isn't," he said, still on one knee. "But you have the power to make changes in the world. You turned me into a boy, and you turned yourself into a girl—and possibly the most beautiful girl in the world, may I just add. You made Mom and Dad not notice that you and I were sleeping together. What other superpowers does that enchanted ring give you?"
I looked down at the ring, still fixed to my hand, where it had been for the past month. Well, I thought: nothing ventured, nothing gained.
"I wish that it was legal for fraternal twins to marry if both of them are consenting."
We paused a moment. Jamie looked around. Nothing appeared to have changed around us, but after a long, solemn pause, Jamie said what I was thinking: "It feels different somehow."
"It does," I said, and nodded. "Like somehow, if the rest of the world knew that you and I were having premarital sex, they would still hate us and condemn us for incest. But once we get married, we can have all the sex we want, and get pregnant as many times as we want, and everyone will take it for granted."
"That settles it, then," Jamie said. "Since you're already pregnant, we have to get married at once, so we can be an honest couple. Will you marry me, Joelle?"
I laughed out loud that he was still on one knee, waiting for my answer, as if it wasn't a foregone conclusion. "Yes," I said. "I would be honored to be your wife. I have one condition, though."
"Anything."
"Never stop thinking of me as your sister. When we're married, when we're in bed together, when we have our baby in our arms, I still want to be your sister."
"Done!" Jamie jumped up, a broad smile on his face, and wrapped me in his arms. In the midst of our embrace, I felt him start to get hard down below.
"Whoa, slow down there, buckaroo," I said, pushing him away. "If you want to ride this pony again, we need to get married first."
"Well then," he said, "let's get married. Right away. Tonight! Because I... okay, I'll say it. I love you. Is that okay, sis? I love you, and I need to get back inside you as quickly as possible."
"You drive a hard bargain," I said, "pun intended. So how do you want to go about this?"
