Anxiety and relief flooded Lisa as she raced for her room. Finally her mother would leave her be but only at the cost of becoming too young to truely help. Just how young was she? Reaching her room, Lisa was shocked at how much things had changed in the short time she had been gone.
It was still her room, yet everything was not only larger but much different. Gone was the queen sized bed Lisa's parents had purchased 2 years ago. In its stead was the familiar twin sized one she had slept in for years. The furniture, such as the a dresser and desk, replaced with toys and a small pink dresser filled to the brim with childish clothes. Even the walls of her room had changed, the previous teenage posters and off white paint replaced with Disney princesses and a soft pink coloring. Grabbing the watch, Lisa now slammed the stop button down as she gazed at the timer.
With a birthday in July, Lisa realized that not only was she beginning third grade, she wouldn't turn nine until next summer. She was now one of the youngest kids in her class. Walking towards the height markers her parents placed in her room, she could see the most recent one for when she turned eight. The girl feeling crest fallen as she realized how many times she would have to measure herself before she could get back to where she started. Hopping onto her bed, the girl sulked, her mood soured further as she realized her feet didn't even touch the floor.
How had this happened? She had been 16! She had her license! She was an upper classmates! Now, those things were years away, her age had effectively been cut in half. Lisa now wondered what could she do? She would have to repeat lessons she had learned years ago, the material would be redundant with her teenage mind. It was hell, having to go through years of schooling once more, trying to convince her teachers she wasn't brilliant as she whizzed through elementary school. Worse, she would need to try and convince her parents she wasn't some genius to keep them from enrolling her in some special school.
Lisa now scowled as her thoughts turned to her mother. This was her fault! If she hadn't taken so long, maybe Lisa could've stopped this sooner. Sure she would probably have become too young to drive but she could have minimized the damage. Lisa's mothers actions has probably coat her 3 or 4 years of age, which was alot for someone who was now only 8 years old. It bothered Lisa now that she longed for those missing years. She could have managed being 11 or even 12 years old.
Instead her mother had proven a nuisance. From her insistence on stopping at the store, to her slow driving, to her asking Lisa to carry the groceries inside. These actions by her mother cost Lisa precious years. It was unfair, she should be worried about taking the SAT not relearning multiplication and division.
With a heavy sigh she now lay back on her bed. There had to be a way out of this, she just wasn't sure how? For a moment the girl needed to think, and come up with a plan of action.
