Kira approached the pedestal with one of the totems on it, that being the totem shaped like a badger.
The wooden badger seemingly stared at her with its sharp eyes, as the sunlight going through the opening on the top of the cave shone on its black stripes. It looked like it was alive, and staring right into her soul. Kira somehow felt connection with the wooden statue, as if the badger was her... protector? Spirit animal? Guardian angel sent to the Earth to look specifically after her?
But Kira didn't have time to think about it in this cave. Her friend, Roxie, was waiting for her outside, and is probably worried by now. She started walking out of the cave, with arms gently, but firmly, wrapped around the totem she was going to place in her room when she got back home.
Roxie, who was waiting outside, saw Kira coming out of the cave, with the totem she brought with her. "You're finally back, Kira! And it seems like you found something interesting in that cave.", said girl with blonde hair, tied into a ponytail.
Suddenly, Kira started to hear that voice again. This time, it said: "Don't reveal the secret yet..."
The girl with a totem started thinking of a lie. She didn't completely trust the voice yet, but it had a good point. "I mean, what would happen if the totems really had magic powers, and someone else knew about them? I don't think something good will happen...", Kira thought, and that's when she said to her friend:
"Oh, yeah, that totem does look cool. I decided to take it home. You know, to break the monotony of my room and such...", Kira said, pretending that it was the only totem she found in the cave. She didn't want for her friend to know about the other totems, and especially not about the mysterious voice. Who knows who or what it belonged to...
"So, Kira? Are you ready to go home? Our parents are probably worrying sick about us right now."
"Oh, of course! Let's go then!"
They walked together through the forest that cave has been located in. When they got to the town they lived in, Kira and Roxie parted their ways and continued on their journeys to the home.
Kira finally got to her home, and greeted mom and dad. She was hiding the totem away from them, knowing that they would accuse her of stealing (who knows, maybe it turns out the totem IS rightfully hers and hasn't been claimed by anyone else back then?).
Rest of the day went like normal: playing computer games, reading books, watching TV and other things (it was Saturday then). When the time came, she laid in her bed, put the totem under her pillow, and fell asleep.
But what she didn't see, that overnight, a visitor came. And it was not a burglar. No, it was an unusual creature. It walked on two legs and glowed lightly in the dark. The creature looked like a mix of an every creature possible, with fins and wings too! The creature whispered, with the same voice Kira heard in the cave: "So, the choice has been made... Hope you will enjoy yourself tomorrow, young lady. You didn't pick the totem... The totem picked you...". It then touched her hand lightly, and teleported away. The spot which creature touched suddenly started growing black fur...
