Oliver couldn't help but wonder if he would ever find out what he truly was becoming. He knew that he was changing, and that the others were too, but he didn't know what they were turning into. It was all very confusing and scary.
As time went on, Oliver began to notice strange things happening to his body. His hands started to grow webbing between his fingers, and his legs developed spots where scales were forming. He tried to hide these changes from everyone else, but he knew that soon enough everyone would see them.
One day, as he came home, his parents greeted him with a smile. "We have something special planned for dinner tonight," his mother said.
"What is it?" he asked, trying not to sound too excited.
She replied, "You'll see."
He wasn't sure what to expect, but he couldn't shake the feeling that this night would change everything.
At dinner, his family sat down to eat, and there was a large fish on the table. His mother served it to him first, and then a properly baked portion to herself. Oliver looked at her with confusion. "Mom, I don't understand."
She smiled warmly. "It's time for you to start embracing who you are, dear. You're evolving into a frog. You're still too big to live only on flies, but this should be acceptable."
He stared at the fish on his plate, unsure of how to react. This wasn't what he expected. But as he took a bite, he realized that he had never tasted anything so delicious in his life. The flavor exploded in his mouth, and he could feel his body responding to it.
His parents watched as he finished the fish and then stood up, walking away from the table. They both winked at each other before leaving the room.
Oliver turned back to look at the fish, knowing full well what it meant. He was becoming more than just human - something amazing! A creature of the wild, living on instinct...
Disappointingly enough, he still had to dress up and head to school for the time being. As he arrived, he took another look at how his classmates were progressing. Some were developing tails, some were sprouting horns, others had their skin shifting into different hues... But all of them seemed happy. They were becoming something wonderful.
Oliver couldn't help but feel a pang of envy as he saw Liza walking over to him with an amused smirk on her face. "You look a little down Oliver," she said playfully, giving his shoulder a nudge. "Don't worry, we're all in this together." With that, she lifted up her Hot Topic shirt right there in the hallway. Slimy yellow skin with black spots was spreading over her bare human chest.
"Whoa! Uh, good thing no one's paying attention." Oliver laughed nervously. Maybe he'd never fit in among these fantastic creatures either... or maybe he would. It occurred to him that perhaps he could use this strange situation to his advantage. Maybe he could find a way to stand out even further.
With renewed determination, Oliver gathered his things and headed off to class. Who knew? Today might be the day that everything changed. Maybe he'd finally discover who he's really meant to be. Or maybe he already had. Either way, it'll be an interesting ride.
