Mrs Finch had finally reached JoAnne's office to collect her new charges. One was in her stroller banging together two plastic cups and the other very obviously needed a potty. And so she swiftly introduced herself to four year old Millie and her older sister, seven year old Morgan before taking Millie and Morgan's diapering supplies and placing them over the handle bars of Millie's stroller. JoAnne had been sure to place the spare plastic cups in Millie's diaper bag so that Millie could play with them later. Mrs. Finch began to roll Millie's stroller out of JoAnne's office and called for Morgan to follow her out. As they passed Ms Wilson's kindergarten room, Morgan stopped and placed her palms and her face directly onto the window glass, her nose being scrunched up like a pig's. She watched as a lone girl was standing in front of her class saying something, but Morgan couldn't figure out what the girl was saying because the door was sound dampening. The girl smiled as she looked towards the door and shyly waved hello to Morgan. Shortly after the wave, poor Morgan peed in her disposable training pants causing them to leak down her leg. Morgan started crying because she was working really hard to stay dry, but also because she didn't want to lose Rainbow Dash and Pinky Pie and be forced into the ugly medical youth diapers her younger sister now wore. The idea of walking around in her yucky wet trainers made Morgan shudder, but the thought of pooping in a diaper like Millie was the stuff of nightmares. And so Morgan started crying. Mrs Finch, the special education assistant, somberly and quietly encouraged Morgan to continue on to class and Morgan was obliged to walk the walk of shame on her first day at this new school.
Gracie Harper wasn't too bothered to not have her red panda with her for show-and-tell since it was her first day of in this school as well. The teacher had told her that she could bring her red panda with her to school to show everyone tomorrow. But....it was still Stuffie Day and she still wanted to talk about Scritters, her bedfellow, companion, and friend and tell her new classmates how his native home was being destroyed by thoughtless mean people so that maybe, when her classmates grow up, they can help keep Scritters' family from dying due to lack of food and housing. When she looked up, she saw an older girl looking through the window of her classroom door. She'd waved hello to the girl, but the girl quickly disappeared afterward. Did the girl want to come into class and talk about her stuffie? Was the girl sad? Gracie just didn't know. Perhaps, she could ask her teacher if maybe she could meet the girl and maybe be her friend.
Mrs Finch knew it was a bad idea to let Morgan stall on the way to class, but the way the girl looked through Ms Wilson's window had raised many questions. Perhaps, a word needs to be spoken with JoAnne to see if Morgan could spend an hour in the kindergarten room. It would be good for everyone involved if possible. From teaching disability awareness to the kindergarten class to teaching Morgan a few social and possibly some pre-k skills as well the possibilities were endless. But for now, she had two little girls to get to class and one of them clearly needed a pull up based on the wetness on the girl's face from tears and from the wetness still dribbling down from her training pants. And so, she gently nudged the girl to continue her journey with her little sister down to special ed.
