You hear your phone go off again. Once more, it's Jenny. You decide to answer. She owes you an explanation. "Hello, Jenny?" you say nervously as you take the call.
"Hi, hottie!" Jenny says brightly, her voice full of its usual perk and energy. "Sorry I missed Christmas with you. I was working. Christmas is sorta the busiest time of the year for me and my coworkers. Did you try on the present I got you?" Her permanently cheery voice somehow grows even peppier on that last sentence.
"Was it jingle bells?" you groan.
"Then you HAVE tried them on!" Jenny cheers. "Oh darling, I'm so happy!"
"Why?" you ask, somewhat unnerved. Was Jenny trying to turn you into some kind of reindeer?
"Because this is my way of proposing marriage to you, silly!" Jenny laughs musically. "Think of that harness as an engagement ring. So..." Jenny's voice almost turns sheepish. "Will you marry me?"
"Babe, that can wait!" You gasp as you anxiously pat at your own fur. "Jenny, I'm turning into a reindeer! My clothes vanished into thin air! I'm all furry! I have hooves!"
"Ooh, then it's working!" Jenny says. You can almost hear the smile on her face.
"WORKING?!" You shout. "Jen, what the actual HELL is going on?!"
"I... I guess I should explain," Jenny says, chuckling awkwardly. "My real name isn't Jenny; it's Prancer. I'm one of Santa's reindeer."
"WHAT?!" you thunder. She has to be joking! Jenny is a human girl with green eyes, long red hair, and a closet full of cute skirts in pastel colors, not some animal! She's absolutely kidding you... right? Then again, you ARE turning into a reindeer right now. And Jenny always has been cryptic about the nature of her job (aside from having a boss named Nick, a coworker named Rudy, and Christmas being the busy season). Do you even know her last name? COULD Jenny really be Prancer?
"I mean what I said," Jenny says, her voice turning serious. "I'm Prancer, and I just pulled Santa's sleigh with the others. You know Nick. That's Santa Claus. And Rudy? He's the Rudolph. You know, with the red nose? I know this must sound kooky, considering you've only ever seen me as a human, but you have to believe me. I mean, just look at yourself right now."
"Yeah, thanks a lot!" you sneer.
"Hey, it's not my fault you opened the gift without taking my calls!" Jenny (or rather Prancer) snorts. "I was TRYING to explain what it was, silly!" She sighs. "Ugh, my sister Dancer told me that this was a dumb idea! Guess I should've listened."
You blush. "Okay, sorry. I was just mad you left me alone on Christmas. I see why now. So, what can I expect?"
"Well, you''' continue changing until you're a full reindeer," Prancer explains. "Don't worry, you'll keep your ability to speak English. You'll eventually be able to shift into a human form, and even an anthropomorphic reindeer form, but that'll take some practice. Just try to get comfortable with your changes. I'll be at the ski resort as fast as I can to bring you to the North Pole."
"Thanks, babe," you tell her. "Oh, and I will marry you... probably." That gets a chuckle from Prancer.
