You had no idea what it could be, and it was that you desired for something but had not at all considered the wording. Indeed, the wording is most important when dealing with genies. Especially when meeting a mischievous one like the one you had in front of you. And mischievous she certainly was... She loved misinterpreting the wishes of her masters and delight in the utter mortification of her masters turned victims. She adored seeing them squirm! Of course she played the innocent when they complained, arguing that she couldn't help it, that she was only a conduit for the magic and nothing else. That it did as it wanted and that she was powerless to control it. It was a lie but no one could argue against it. And her victims were so much in a panic after their stupid wishes that they could argue against her claims and desperate to make another wish so as to get out of their current predicament, not knowing that she would only play with them cruelly again. Naturally, she was not so evil with children but with adults she restrained herself almost never. Most humans were selfish, annoying and incredibly dumb, at any rate. And she knew well how to circumvent her own rules. Shutting the mouth of her master to halt him or her from blubbering more wishes was very easy, once she got tired of torturing them. Humans were always too tempted to grab wishes and get to see their dreams come true. Even the most careful ended up making mistakes. So when you had said your wish out loud, yt was incredibly effortless for the genie to make it into a complete and full humiliation for you.
