Isaac felt relieved as the school bus dropped him off at his house, quickly entering and shutting the door behind him. He dropped Eric’s backpack on the living room floor and wandered into the kitchen, seeking a snack to satisfy his after school appetite.
Today was rough. For the most part Issac had an easy time blending in with the other middle schoolers, taking notes in class and turning in the assignments Eric had done the night before. Luckily there were no projects to present or questions from the teachers to answer, Isaac never getting called on by a teacher. Although he wasn’t too worried about being asked a question, middle school a breeze with his adult intelligence, it still wasn’t a cakewalk. Isaac had to continuously find all of Eric’s classes, stumbling into his classmates in the hall who angrily shoved him back. Not to mention the worst part of the day: gym class.
Isaac had originally felt uncomfortable changing in the boys locker room with kids his son’s age. However, it was soon replaced with embarrassment as he noticed the other kids had more developed bodies than himself, already displaying signs of puberty with body hair and increased muscle mass. This was further exacerbated by the fact that most of his peers were taller than him, making Isaac feel unusually weak and small.
The gym teacher had only made them run laps, which would’ve been a snap for Isaac in his old body. But his new one was a different story. Eric’s body wasn’t very athletic and his short legs didn’t give Isaac the much needed boost to run faster, leaving him to come in last place every time. It was humiliating to see kids much younger than himself now beating him by a long shot.
After gym followed lunch which Isaac ate by himself, unsure if his son had any friends or not. Then a few more classes later and he boarded the bus, sitting in a seat by himself as he waited to be dropped off at his house. It was a long and dull ride, the other kids preoccupied with talking to their friends or going on their phones. Eric had neither, which made Isaac slightly regret never getting his son one, the bus ride feeling as if it lasted longer than it actually did.
But Isaac had endured it all, now relaxing on the couch as he ate an apple, flipping through the tv channels for something to watch. It would still be a few hours until Eric came home and Isaac wouldn’t have the opportunity to use the coin until Eric got his identity back, which meant he had to wait until then. As Isaac finally found something to watch he heard the front door open.
