While not every Animalia colony celebrated Christmas due to their location, it wasn't said that Christmas was abandoned outright. In fact, many Christmas traditions were "added on" to already established "local" winter traditions. The best example of this was on Heiya Island, where Dongzhi was the primary holiday and Christmas traditions were added on. Though, in retrospect, Christianity and Buddhism were a lot more similar than some people initially think: neither Buddha (real name Siddartha Gautama) nor Jesus were gods in the traditional sense of the word; both became "enlightened", so to speak; and decided to spread their teachings to the world. While this might be a bit of a shock to many Westerners (including Lenard and Mikey), this was more of a cultural shock and did result in a few good jokes here and there.
Mr_B@ffl3d: I haven't felt this enlightened ever since I learned that Robin wasn't Batman's son.

Another thing that was really surprising about Christmas was that December 25th wasn't actually Jesus' birthday. Instead, it was actually the birthday of a Persian god Mithra, known to the Romans and Mithras. When the emperor Constantine converted to Christianity, he had merged a number of Mithraic traditions with Christianity to make the "transition" a lot easier, much to the surprise of many a conservative Christian.

A final thing that was surprising was the birthdays that happened on Christmas Day. While unusual, it wasn't as uncommon as some people think it to be. In fact, both Annie and Rox giving birth to their pups on Christmas seemed to make it a little more... normal.
