Melanie smiled politely, wondering just what the hell she had let herself in for. As she unpacked her few things into her new wardrobe she wondered what the job entailed. Would she be helping him run errands or doing housework? It sounded a little demeaning but at least she wouldn't have to go far in search of employment and even though her new roommate was a little strange it was nice to have company again. She hoped she would come to like him and they could be good friends.
With her belongings finally put away she returned downstairs, wondering what Cecil would be up to. As she entered the living room he was sitting on the large, green, comfy sofa with his wand in hand and a book open in front of him. He seemed to be muttering to himself as he read it and his brow was furrowed with concern.
"Something wrong?" Melanie asked, causing him to jump slightly, startled.
"I didn't hear you come in!" He said, closing the book quickly "And no. Nothing is wrong. I was just trying to learn some new spells, that's all. I don't seem to be having much luck!"
"You'll get it" Melanie said "You're a wizard after all, remember?"
"That's right! I am!" Cecil nodded, noting a dash of sarcasm in her tone "Perhaps a demonstration would make you believe me. Here, have a seat!" He patted the sofa and Melanie joined him.
"Is it safe?" She joked.
"Of course!" Cecil assured her, standing up and taking his wand from the coffee table in front of him.
He pointed it at Melanie and chanted something. It was an incantation she had never heard before and sounded foreign. There was a bright flash of light and then a poof of purple smoke that engulfed Melanie. Cecil waited patiently for the smoke to clear.
