For Nat and Rei, this New Years Eve was similar to so many others. The pair found themselves lounging around on the couch at Nats house, their parents going out together for a New Year's Eve dinner. It had been a tradition for a few years now, Nat and Rei watching the ball drop as their parents went out that evening. Although the teens were an official couple, their parents apparently felt they were responsible enough to not do anything reckless. "Rei are we dorks?"
"No," Rei replied shrugging her shoulders. "I mean I don't think so. Why do you ask Nat?" Nat fidgeted in place, neither one of their parents ever worried that they would do anything wrong. For both teens they often heard their parents gush about how good they were. ""I don't know," Nat groaned. "I mean, we're 16! Shouldn't we be at a party or doing something crazy for new years or something?"
"Like what Nat," Rei asked, raising an eyebrow. "Do you want to get hammered? Sprint naked through the streets? Have sex in your parents room?"
"What NO," Nat exclaimed, her cheeks blushing in embarrassment. "I'm just saying. It seems like we should be doing something more than just sitting on the couch watching New Years Rocking Eve before sharing a kiss at midnight."
"Well it's not like we haven't done stuff," Rei said, her cheeks blushing slightly. "I mean there was that time I took my shirt off and you squeezed my boob."
"Yeah because you watched that movie about breast cancer and thought that pimple on your boob was cancerous," Nat sighed. "I don't think that counts." Rei rubbed the back of her neck, still turning several shades of red. "It made me feel better though."
The teens now paused, exchanging an awkward look before giggling. Although the pair were beginning to grow up, branch out on their own, and accept more responsibilities, it seemed when it came to somethings, they weren't quite ready for.
The sound of the doorbell now drew both girls attention. Who would be coming here around this time? To their knowledge all of their friends were busy tonight. Spark and Connor were hanging out with Gloria and Connor. The Desoto twins invited their significant other to their house, even Stephanie and Travis had plans as the pair would be ringing in the new year with Travis's family. Curiously Nat now approached the door, surprised to see a girl around their age with seafoam green hair and a girl who looked like she had time traveled from the 50s. "Can I help you?"
"Is your name Natalia MacGregor," the girl with green hair asked. Nat nodded, unsure of this mismatched pair. "My names Tricia," she said. "This is my girlfriend Diana." Nat looked to Diana, trying to place her face. The teenage girls hair was tied in a tight bun, her plain white blouse buttoned all the way to the top with a skirt that covered her knees. It struck Nat as odd that the green haired girl would even associate with this girl.
"We need your help," Tricia continued. "Something happened to Dai. She wasn't like this a year ago. Somebody did something to her."
"I'm not sure what we could do to help," Rei stated.
"Dai mentioned something about a group known as the Normal," Tricia stated. "She said you would know about that." Nat and Rei's eyes went wide, quickly grabbing the pair they pulled inside before slamming the door. "What do you know about the Normal," Nat exclaimed.
"I work for them," Diana stammered. "And I know about you two. Natalia is a dhamphir and Rei is a wizard."
Discovering that someone who was actually part of the Normal was standing in her living room now caused Nat to snarl. The dhamphir teens eyes turning a solid magenta, her muscles increasing in size as she bared her fangs. Quickly grabbing Diana by the shoulders, she now slammed the teenage girl against the wall. "What the fuck," Tricia exclaimed. "You're a vampire!!!"
"Dhamphir," Rei replied, as she conjured a spell. "Both of you stay right there." Tricia gawked, looking between Nat, Rei, and Diana. She was completely befuddled by all of this. After spending a year searching for her girlfriend, she finally found her but something had happened. Diana was different somehow and now she found herself in a vampires house. "What is going on," she exclaimed. "Dai? What is all this?"
"Quiet," Nat snarled, the teenage dhamphir trying to put on a fearsome front. Baring her fangs, she tried to compensate for the fear she felt. Somehow the Normal knew where she lived. How did they know and were her parents now in danger? Narrowing her eyes, she now closed her hand around Diana's neck as a low, animalistic growl escaped her lips. "Why are you here?"
"I...I need your help," Diana stammered, her voice tinged with fear. "Something...something is wrong. I....I can't explain it. I just know though that...I need your help."
"Why us," Rei asked.
"I can't see that boy Darren," Diana whispered. "He would recognize me. I needed someone who the Normal haven't been watching as closely. Please, I don't know what's happened to me. I need your help!"
Nat and Rei now exchanged a nervous glance before turning to Diana and Tricia. Their New Years Eve was about to become much more eventful.
