Letting the Marbles (or balls) Land Where They May

added A year ago O

“You know what?” Sam asked, answering herself, “Luan gets this one.”
“What?!” Lucy squeaked.
“You can see that Colin’s heart is too sweet and pure to be tempted by that skank?” Luan smiled, shaking her head “… that other woman?”
“I mean he’s got fifteen of us and won’t stop anytime soon!” Sam shouted. “It’s been what, two, three months and he’s got ten more?”
Lucy sighed and slumped into her seat.
“Alright, fine, we can watch, BUT NO FUNNY BUSINESS!” The blonde Amazon sighed, “I’d prefer to NOT get banned from this park.”
“Alright!” Lucy said with her hands up, “Geez, you wreck one Cabella’s and everything’s a chance to get banned.”

The trio silently slunk to the picnic tables and took a seat as they watched Colin take a few practice swings.
“Alright, I think we’re ready, let’s go team!” Colin smiled with his hand raised for a high five.
“Shut up.” The fiery redhead huffed, “You’re the entire reason we’re even in this stupid game.”
“This doesn’t sound like a date….” Luan said, “Sam are you sure-?”
“Sssssh!” Sam interjected.
“Hey lovebirds, are you guys ready yet?” A voice called from the other side of the court.
“We’re not lovebirds!” The redhead shouted as she snatched the ball and furiously served it.
Their unseen audience leaned the other way to see another redhead; she was taller than the one Colin was with, almost as tall as Sam, her flaming locks done up in a bun as she knocked the ball straight at Colin.
Colin served it back as a dumpy guy with a huge forehead hit it back, sending the ball clean past them.
“Point for us, sister!” The taller redhead smiled “I look forward to seeing you in Memphis!”
“In your dreams!” Colin’s team mate said as she served the ball once again.
“I’m confused.” Luan said as Colin managed to swing and score a point for his side.
“We’re just sitting here hoping Colin actually manages to win.” Sam said.
“How many games has Colin won?” Luan asked.
“Shit.” Colin spat as he narrowly missed the older sister’s serve.
“We’re gonna need a miracle at this rate.” Lucy said as Colin hit the ball out of bounds.

Here it was, the final round; the teams were neck and neck, all Colin had to do was get this one point and he’d get out of this Memphis trip.
Colin was shaking like a leaf and the older redhead wasn’t even breaking a sweat!
“Don’t screw this up!” The younger sister growled as the trio watched through the fence.
Colin threw the ball up in the air and glanced over, suddenly realizing who was watching him.
Lucy nervously looked away, Sam folded her arms and Luan stood up and blew him a kiss.

Colin’s face turned serious as he struck the ball with the passion of a thousand warriors, sending the ball slamming to the ground past them before it soared out of the court.
“I did it…” Colin paused, chuckling as a smile spread across his face “I DID IT! I DID IT! I DID IT!!!!!”
Sam smiled as his little victory dance as she followed the others back to the car.
Colin was just about to get inside his own car when a hand tapped him on the shoulder.
And he saw the tennis ball with his own name written on it.
Colin tossed in his car and smiled “Oh yeah, thanks-“
