Jared froze when the doorbell rang. She couldn't hide. She was in the front foyer approaching the door. Whoever it was would have seen her through the glass.
'Hello? Is that you Sue? It's Michael, wondering if Jared is home'
Oh No! Micheal was Jared's best mate. He lived just down the road. He would often call around and they would play video games or backyard basketball.
'Hello? Sue? Mrs Johnson?' Jared looked out the window to see Michael with his face close to the glass looking straight at him.
'Ahh.... Hi' Jared eventually said.
'Oh hi. You're Sue's friend. Jugs?' Micheal wouldn't know Dana very well. 'Is Jared home?'
Jared was going to have to bluff this out 'Dana. But better known as Jugs. And no. Jared isn't at home'
'I have some money I owe him. Do you know where he is?'
That would be right. Michael had finally just come up with the money he owed Jared, when Jared was in no position to retrieve it. 'He's gone for a couple of days. Won't be back till Tuesday night'
'Oh... He didn't say he was going anywhere.... Oh well.... I guess I keep the money for a bit longer'
That wasn't what Jared wanted to hear. Michael was a hopeless spend thrift. Money burnt a hole in his pocket. By Tuesday that $200 would be gone. Jared somehow had to get it now. She opened the door and held out her hand 'Give the money to me and I'll take it to him'
'You know where he is?' Michael looked at Jared from 2 feet away. 'You have his bag?'
All Jared could think of at the moment was that Michael was actually a bit of a hunk. He was taller than Spike and had blemish free skin and lovely teeth. She was flustered. 'I .... He is staying at my place. I'm taking some of his stuff around' she immediately wished she could take those words back.
