"Yes, Mother," Sassy replied. Anya frowned. She was about to say something regarding the new title, but before she could, Sassy ducked his head under her and latched onto one of her teats. Anya jerked in surprise at the sensation. But soon relief came over her, as her swollen udder was slowly drained of milk.
"Sassy, tell me, what do you remember?" Anya asked carefully, once Sassy had his fill. Sassy looked at her, perplexed.
"We are not meant to be horses," he said after a moment. "But a magical amulet transformed us to these forms for our protection. Once we have reached safety, we can become human again and resume our regular lives."
That was correct, but just vague enough to worry Anya.
"What else?" she prompted. Sassy pawed at the stall floor.
"...Not much," he confessed. Anya sighed. This wasn't good. Without all his memories, his brain would fill in the gaps with false information. False information would be more difficult to resolve than a mere lack of knowledge. As it was, it seemed Sassy was already leaning towards truly thinking he was Anya's child. True, she had just given birth to him, but still!
"Well, for now-" she started. Sassy's ears pricked up eagerly.
"Wait, I remember something!" he whinnied. Anya swallowed nervously.
"What do you remember?" she asked carefully.
"Well, this is related to us being mother and son," Sassy said. Anya's heart sunk. Whatever the colt had to say would not be good. "I remember that..."
