As they walk to the car to pick up the bags, Ally looks at her brother and sighs "I can't believe we're still doing this." She leans down to pick up a bag of groceries with one hand, but stops midway through. "Ugh... It hurts again."
Kyle raises an eyebrow as he watches his sister clutch her stomach and moan in discomfort. 'Did I really make her think she was going to lay eggs?', he thought, incredulous of the fact that this might actually work. "Are you okay?"
Ally nods, but looks like she's trying not to cry. She tries again to pick up a bag and manages it after another grimace of pain. They carry everything in together and start putting things away in the kitchen cupboards. Ally is moving slowly as her stomach cramps come more frequently.
"I should... probably go lay down..." she groans, looking at Kyle with a worried expression. "Can you finish this?"
Kyle nods and watches his sister make her way to the living room couch where he can see her from the kitchen. She lies on her side and curls into herself as the cramps continue. 'This is crazy...' Kyle thought, looking at his sister, in pain because of a hypnotic suggestion. He finishes putting away the groceries quickly before joining Ally on the couch.
"Hey sis," he says quietly, trying to keep her calm, "do you want me to get mom? Maybe she should call the doctor."
Ally shakes her head no as another wave of pain washes over her. She tries to breathe through it and clenches her fists in discomfort before finally letting out a long sigh when it passes. "I think... I'm just going to rest for now..." she says weakly, closing her eyes.
Kyle watches his sister closely as the cramps continue on and off over the next few hours. He starts to worry that maybe he should have called their mom after all, but Ally doesn't seem any worse than when they first got home. Eventually she falls into a restless sleep, her stomach still spasming occasionally even in dreams.
Kyle decides it's time for him to do something about this. He carefully takes the coin out of his pocket and begins to swing it slowly back and forth in front of Ally's face. Her eyes flutter open momentarily before closing again, and Kyle starts talking softly to her as he continues moving the coin.
"Ally... I want you to listen closely to my voice. You are feeling very relaxed right now, aren't you?"
She nods slightly, still half-asleep.
"That's good... Just let yourself drift away on the sound of my voice." Kyle watches as his sister's breathing becomes deeper and more even, her stomach no longer clenching in pain. "You are going to forget about this whole egg-laying thing, okay? It was just a silly suggestion that your mind took too seriously. But now you know it wasn't real, so there's nothing to worry about."
Ally nods again, her eyes still closed. Kyle can see the tension in her face starting to ease as she relaxes further into the hypnotic state. He continues talking to her for a few more minutes before finally snapping his fingers and bringing her out of it.
When Ally opens her eyes this time, she looks much calmer than before. She sits up slowly and rubs her stomach gently as if trying to soothe any lingering discomfort. "What happened?" she asks groggily.
Kyle smiles at his sister reassuringly. "I think your period just came a little early, that's all."
Ally nods and stands up slowly, looking relieved. "Thanks for taking care things, Kyle," she says with a small smile before heading to the bathroom.
Kyle sighs in relief as he watches his sister disappear down the hallway. He can't believe what just happened... but at least it seems like everything is back to normal now.
