Ladybird idly watched from her stall as Master Dmitri rode off on that beautiful Horse Witch. Some part of her was jealous. She wanted to be ridden even more. But Master Dmitri and Horse Witch Theia had said she was with foal, so she needed to be treated gently. As such, she would accept fewer and shorter rides. She was a good horse. Good horses didn’t kick up a fuss. They did as their Masters instructed.
Ladybird…no, Sassy, lowered her head to drink. As she drank from the trough in her stall, her mind caught up with all that had happened since Theia cast the spell upon her. When she realized the enormity of the situation, she knew she should be panicked. But she wasn’t. Anya was gone, both she and Sassy were branded and pregnant. And yet, Sassy continued to drink, unbothered.
When Sassy finished her drink, she thought. There wasn’t much else for her to do. She was content, yes, but felt that she should inform Dmitri of the situation she was in. Whether Dmitri did something about it, she was ambivalent. She was perfectly happy to stay at the school. Though she wouldn’t mind if Anya came back.
After a few minutes, Sassy decided that once Dmitri and the other Horse Witch came back from their ride, she would tell them everything. Now, though, she was tired. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.
